The way I tackled OBS complexity was to do it in increments. Make one thing better every stream. You’re not going to have a ton of viewers in your first few anyway, so just have the camera, a background, and make sure your audio doesn’t echo.

Worry about alerts, chat overlay, etc. later.

I’ve seen really good crafting streams happen two ways - but they both require cameras instead of cell phone. You can run two - one for your face shot and one on the artwork, or just one on the artwork, but it’s so much easier to control and navigate if you integrate it into your OBS setup.
