John Lewis, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and now Bernard Lafayette. We are losing the pillars of the Civil Rights Movement who fought bravely for equality and freedom. We should honor their memory by learning from and channeling their courage for our own fights today.

Trump: “I guess the worst case would be we do this and somebody takes over who’s as bad as the previous person…We don’t want that to happen. It would probably be the worst, you go through this, and then in five years you realize you put somebody in who’s no better.”

But our career officers are doing extraordinary work under such pressures to keep focused on helping all those in need. Remember, these are the same public servants that this administration has demonized, disrespected, and tried to push out. We are grateful for their persistence and service. END

There are limitations to what can be done, especially in dangerous environments. The Trump Admin put our officers abroad in harm’s way by not drawing down widely before the war, especially in Iraq and elsewhere where the threat is so high. (8/9)

While Trump Admin didn’t do enough to preplan/prepare, our officers abroad at embassies (who are also working in harm’s way) are trying to line up charter flights, transportation, etc. (7/9)

When I served on task forces, I’ve often been one connecting with our embassies and with foreign govs to speed coordination. (6/9)

Often time shifts can be 12 hours of nonstop work, taking calls directly from Americans stuck abroad or from our military about security assessments, or trying to sift through the thousands of messages/emails. (5/9)

Officers from Consular affairs next to Middle East Specialists next to Security professionals. There are dedicated rooms at State HQ for these Task Forces. (4/9)

After the war began, State stood up what’s called a TASK FORCE, a 24/7 op that brings career officers with different expertise to sit physically in the same room and coordinate the flood of calls/logistics. (3/9)

This is an insane and false statement by the Commander in Chief. Trump says “wars can be fought forever” but makes no mention of our service members that have to do the fighting and bear the risk and sacrifice. After decades of war, Americans don’t want “forever wars.”

No more soundbites. The American people deserve to know exactly why we're at war with Iran. And if Trump plans to deploy more servicemembers to fight this war, especially one that could be disastrous for our security at home, then the American people need a say.
