We should strive for purity in our personal politics but we have to understand that the political process of government is not designed to function under the weight of ideological purity.

There are two ways we use the word politics that are incompatible now. -1) our personal beliefs, which impact the way we navigate our relationships and the world we inhabit and -2) the process by which a society is governed.

Atheists just don’t want to have to engage your religion. They’ll be pretty vocal about the fact that they don’t believe it but they don’t want you removed from public life, they just want public spaces to be equally enjoyable by people of all beliefs.
