it was ten years ago that I tripped on a suitcase and broke a toe that somehow led my body to develop erythromelalgia. It has been a long road but while my life is no doubt smaller, I am doing so much better.

The administration is attacking universities in the name of fighting antisemitism. Yet when the home of a Jewish governor is set on fire on the first night of Passoverβ€”a blatant act of antisemitismβ€” nary a word from you know who.

Remember when bringing up Hitler as a historical parallel (or claiming the idea came from him) in an argument automatically led to losing that argument?

Reductio ad Hitlerum

I don't think that it the case anymore.

well, I am impressed and a bit relieved. The irony is that many of those pushing for autarky might not follow the visual quotes (or even the name).

My response is that there should be a poster saying "autarkics unite"!

they are trying to undo all gains and developments in the profession of history since the 1960s. If they really want the "objective facts" of history, they are right there in DC at Holocaust Museum and the National Museum of African American History.

The Hiring Freeze Is a Decent Defense. But It Won’t Save the Academy. | Opinion | The Harvard Crimson Each revoked NIH grant, each funding threat, each regulatory assault weakens not just the elite institutions, but all universities, research hospitals, and the entire ecosystem of American innovation.

β€œHarvard, with its unmatched resources and historical influence, faces a distinct responsibility in this moment of crisis. True leadership demands more than defensive caution β€” it requires bold, coordinated action.”

@harvard.edu Crimson board nails it.

As a Jew who works in academia, let me say this again, for the back of the room.

We are safest in a country where the government protects the civil rights of everyone, regardless of their opinions on Jews and Israel.

Stop illegal actions in our name.

Stop attacking academia in our name.

it seems one of the stated purposes of capping overhead on NIH grants at 15% by those who champion the cap is to starve PhD programs in the humanities
