The MSM will continue its freefall. The Right doesn't trust them, Leftists never did, all they had were Liberals and they are increasingly tuning out too.

Screenshot of white text on black background reads: We had a family movie night -- Mufasa. I asked the kids to figure out the composer based on if the songs sounded similar to any other movies. Sure enough, [blank] said these songs sounded similar to Encanto songs. We love Lin-Manuel Miranda music in this house.

And I liked Mufasa's speech to the animals towards the ending: "I know you are afraid, but trust me. Nothing will change if we remain isolated to our own tribes without concern for the fate of others. Today, they are here for us lions, but I assure you, as you let them walk among you in search of us now, they are plotting to come for you tomorrow. There is no lion as large as an elephant, as strong as an oxen, as fast as a cheetah, or tall as a giraffe, who can soar and scout as wide and far as the cranes and hawks in the sky. So, can't you see? Every being has a place in the circle of life. My breath is your breath. My fight is your fight! I will not bend to evil, and neither should you!" How poignant, and something far too many people should take heed of. (End ID)

Just another children's movie teaching them to fight the good fight for others because today it's them, so tomorrow it could be you. Mufasa tells it like it is to his fellow animal friends...

YouTube video by PBS Origins What Makes a Boycott Actually Successful?

7yo: *exasperated* I don't understand any of this
But the 10yo got it. This & a lot of discussion & real-life examples made for a good lesson abt this #economicblackout
I've been boycotting various companies for 10+ yrs, but never really talked abt it w/ the kids. Changing that...

Who wants to offer some m-fing feedback?!?

Riddle me this...

We abbreviate "until" to "till," adding an extra L (instead of shortening it to "til"). But we use the suffix -ful, to change a meaning to "full of" which appears to be missing an L.

I've learned a lot of English language rules in #secularhomeschooling but this still seems stupid

Check out the @thestorygraph.com app for content warnings, of which there are many.

This doesn't take place completely in Vietnam. About half of the book is set in California after main character-Frankie returns & how she deals with her (undiagnosed) PTSD

This #historicalfiction from the POV of an Army nurse who did two tours in Vietnam in the 60s is a real roller coaster. Happiness & devastation throughout, with a shitload of gaslighting ("no women were in Vietnam")

I've been boycotting most of these companies with a decent amount of success for years. But I'm happy to try even harder to align with a concerted effort.

I gave "Gulf of America" a 1-star review on Google, saying that it can't even compare to the Gulf of Mexico.

And here's another easy, quick, & tiny (probably fairly ineffectual) act of resistance: report the search results as inaccurate to Google when "Gulf of America" comes up

Okay, I think I figured out what I like listening to for #throneofglass #booksky

Soundtracks from the following films give me the ToG vibe: Narnia films, Robin Hood (both 1991 and 2010 actually), Stardust, & some Hobbit songs.

(HP & LOTR don't work bc I know those songs too well)

Tell me you've got relatives (mom) who hears you kinda like something once & then assumes you still like it year after year after year without telling me (2003-15)

For 12 years, my annual ornament was something from the Peanuts cartoon series 😏

Is it okay, at 37, to quietly donate some of these? 😬

A cover of the book 1984 by George Orwell. The cover is bright red with white written text and the large image of an eye. There is a small red dot on the line where the pupil meets the grey iris, which almost makes it look like the lens of a camera, rather than pupil & iris, that is powered on (a red light on a camera indicates it's recording). (This alludes to Big Brother, which is a major theme of the book--constant surveillance.)

Reading 1984 for the first time, in my late-30s, in the current events of the US, with a decent knowledge of history (history minor in university) is.....pretty wild πŸ‘€

I'm reading Throne of Glass. I need rec for what to *listen to* while I'm reading (Instrumental only)

When I read ACOTAR, I listened to music that felt kinda fae-like to me (musicians listed in image).

Throne of Glass seems less magical, but I can't pinpoint the vibe

Yikes. But yes, that's why I said "minimum." Bc I know many aren't building factories for one product alone. My ex. is a product that has no moving parts. It's very diff than an auto plant that has a lot of moving pieces to get into place, w/ lots of diff machines. 5 yrs may be more accurate minimum

02.02.2025 14:33 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Based on my very little bit of knowledge of building infrastructure, I would say that new factories take a minimum of 3 years to be built, going from concept (planning, engineering, etc) to production off the line.

02.02.2025 14:27 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Let's just say, I know someone who has been working on a small portion of a new factory being built. That plant produces one product. ONE. Construction began roughly 8 months ago, & start-up won't be for at least 6 more months. Oh & their "small part" is over 2 years of work, pre-construction.

02.02.2025 14:23 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

They probably expect that those industries will just spring up in the US overnight. So the US will be able to produce everything the US needs. So we can "buy American" products only & keep the money in the country.

Idk how much time it'll take for the infrastructure to be built. Years, at best.

Content warnings right off the bat for this one, though: death by hanging and SA happen very soon in this one. There are more CWs throughout the book--it's historical fiction based on a tough time period in a tough location. I love that @thestorygraph.com let's you add CWs in your reviews
