I also recently went on @thedugoutpod.bsky.social to discuss the zine and other aspects of my experiences in these free hills. The episode is live now!

We recently published my new zine “Lessons From The Hills”, a collection of my analyses from this past year in the Spring Revolution, for those in other parts of the world facing escalating fascism and climate change. You can download it from our website:

Inside every angle grinder is an aspiring Bridgeport. This 40-year-old rifle is now a much more effective night fighting weapon, with a high-mounted red dot sight that easily aligns with our night-vision monoculars.

A piece of shrapnel from an airstrike, with the name “Rachel” scratched into it, held in front of a view of buildings and mountains

Text reads: To steal a joke from an old friend:
Somewhere out there is a piece of shrapnel
with my name on it, so if I already have it, it
can’t get me.
This particular chunk of shrapnel came
through the window of our noqta during the
Battle of Falam when an airstrike hit a few
dozen meters away. Engraved with my name,
her name, it serves in my pocket on the front
lines as both a totem of protection and a
reminder of the weight of promise which that
chosen name, for me, represents.

Text reads:

To take a martyr’s name is normal, expected,
in our movement. It is a step, often one of
our first steps, in the journey of personal and
communal development we undertake as
revolutionaries. Rarely, I think, do we at first
fully understand the significance of the name
we take. I’m confident that even now, I
cannot yet fully grasp what it means to take
up Rachel Corrie’s name. One of my greatest
hopes, in all the time I will spend in this
revolution, is to be worthy of it.

If you’re not filthy, you’re not training. If you’re not bleeding, are you training hard enough?
