Government is planning hardship for older Australians living at home Aged care has again been in the media for all the wrong reasons. Two failures are attracting particular attention.

"If the govt is serious about enabling people to age in place, home care must be made affordable, equitable and accessible. No older person in Australia should be forced to choose between a meal and a shower."
@keagar.bsky.social on "rights-based" #agedcare failure.

Support at Home pricing to damage seniors, health and aged care sectors – the impacts of short-sighted policy | Hello Leaders AUS As strains on health and aged care capacity worsen, short-sighted policy surrounding Support at Home pricing to speed up damage for individuals and critical sectors.

Government has the right to set policy. Experts have the right to tell them they are wrong. Citizens have the right to object.

No government gets every decision right. Smart governments change their policy when they realise that they have it wrong

Home care waitlist more than double previously reported, zero new packages released since June, Greens led-inquiry hears | The Australian Greens Evidence at the Greens-led Senate inquiry into the Government’s delayed aged care changes have revealed the shocking state of the Home Care Package waitlist is much longer than previously thought.

Wow, 120,000 older Australians are waiting for an aged care assessment & a further 90,000 have been assessed, approved & waiting for a package. So over 200,000 frail older Australians waiting for the services they need to live safely at home. Disgraceful

It’s time to recognise Palestine and drop the fantasy of a two state solution.

These Australian diplomats have enormous experience and wisdom. It is time for Prime Minister Albanese and Senator Wong to listen to real experts & change direction

I hope that NSW Premier Chris Minns, the NSW Police & all those who objected to the Palestine March yesterday now raise their voices to make the same comments about the annual Sydney Marathon. I’ll bet they won’t. Yet it will close the harbour bridge and clog up the city.

There is no need for Australia to increase defence spending. We are a small pacific country. China doesn’t need to attack us, we sell them whatever they want. We are of no strategic interest to Russia. Our biggest risk is America. It’s time to distance ourselves from the USA

It’s time for Australia to stop talking about Defence spending. America wants Australia to spend more on Attack funding. Australia is not under threat from any country. Our biggest risk is aligning with America when it attacks under countries. We must be non-aligned

I object to my taxes being used to pay Jillian Segal to try & stop Australians speaking up about genocide & ethic cleansing in Gaza. Australia is a tolerant country with a strong sense of truth & justice. Her proposals are vile & anti-Australian

How spending more on defence harms the nation Anthony Albanese is taking a battering from ill-informed commentators for thinking Australia can be defended by spending a little over 2% of GDP on its military forces.

How spending more on defence harms the nation. Too right it does

The next time someone tells you that the quality of aged care has improved, tell them they’re dreaming. 14,934 reportable incidents in just three months (October to December 2024).

To get a feel for the whole picture, multiply by 4 😟
