The heavy drops felt like they were going to punch through Sariel’s pitch-black umbrella as he walked, the sound of his brisk footsteps almost drowned by the rain. The mage was on his way home after having stopped by the Jeweled Crozier. His slightly wet shopping bag dangled limp in his hand that was pointed straight at the ground, moving a bit with every step he took. As he walked through the streets, he almost bumped into another person. They had been running ahead with their hands acting as a poor makeshift rain cover for their eyes. The stranger became irritated by Sariel who hadn’t done anything to dodge the incoming traffic, but their complaints quickly dried in their throat before they could be voiced. Piercing blue eyes gazed at the stranger, their unwavering, cold judgement becoming more and more unbearable as the seconds passed. “My apologies…” the stranger muttered through tight lips, their words melting into the rainstorm. Without a word, Sariel diverted his gaze onward and started walking. The stranger’s scorn rose up to the surface once more when they noticed how utterly uninterested the black-haired mage was in the whole debacle, and they turned around with their drenched hair whipping behind them. “Hey! You were the one who almost ran into me! Show some respect!” Huffing, the stranger glared at the dark-dressed man, who had now stopped a couple steps away. As Sariel turned around, his umbrella spun alongside him, the water droplets from its edges pitter-pattering onto the stone pavement. As they quickly dissipated into the rest of the water flowing through the streets, Sariel cocked his head, somehow managing to look even more down upon the stranger than he already was earlier.

“I’ll show you some respect when you deserve it”, he said, his wry smirk not going unnoticed. “Who do you think you are, you some rich noble or something?” the stranger asked, crossing their arms before continuing. “Would it hurt you to just say sorry?” “I don’t make a habit of lying for other people’s comfort. I have nothing to be sorry about”, Sariel scoffed, shrugging his shoulders and letting more of the excess water from the umbrella slosh down to the ground. “Why, you….!” the stranger snarled, now thoroughly angered by the arrogant man. The stranger stomped towards Sariel and angrily grabbed the mage’s slim shoulder. In that instant, a sizzling sound followed by the distinct smell of burnt leather. With a yelp, the stranger pulled their hand back and looked in horror as their rather expensive glove now had a bunch of charred holes in them. In the short time frame of estimating where the stranger would grasp, Sariel had directed fire aether to concentrate on his shoulder and let the searing heat burn through the other’s glove. Without stopping to offer his condolences, the black mage straightened up and began walking, the sudden motion almost causing him to hit the stranger with his umbrella. Dumbfounded, the stranger kept looking between their burnt glove and the briskly distancing back of the duskwight they had just encountered. Something in the man’s countenance and now surprisingly bouncy walk reminded the stranger of a particular member of the dismantled Heavens’ Ward. “Alright, that’s enough excitement for one day....” the stranger thought, turning around and continuing to run home, their clothes slightly more drenched than before.
