Might be slightly controversial, but as much as I desperately wanted to like Michael Keaton in this film… umm, no. I know what he was going for, and I understand Dogberry’s purpose in the play, but he really came off to me as unintelligible and waaay over the top.

In Winter, Finnea as the crone represents wisdom, memory, prophecy, mysticism, endings and death. She is the end of cycles, the constancy of change and reaping the fruits of one’s labors. Prophetic dreams in winter are given special significance, and it is said that past and future blur in winter.

In fall she represents the harvest, the rewards of hard work, the cyclical nature of all things, the home and the family. Few devout worshippers of Finnea will embark on a journey in the fall.

In Summer she comes to represent love, sport, industry, courage, determination, blithe selfishness and strong emotions. The early summer storms are thought to be her experiencing heartbreak, and villages often elect their most engaging youth to go out to sing during storms, in hope of calming her

What Finnea represents changes over the course of the year. In the spring she embodies curiosity, playful exuberance, vitality and joy. This aspect of Finnea is favored by the windwagoneers who sail their vessels through the sea of tall grass, who pray to her for favorable winds.

I don’t even blame the media on this one- it’s people. Imaginary crime rates give you permission to hate the people you already hate.

Finnea is said to die at sunset on the Winter Solstice, and to be reborn at first light. For that night, in the beliefs of the Amberians, there is no deity overseeing them. It’s a dangerous night both physically and spiritually, where anything goes and anything can happen.

Everyone is trying to time it so their babies are born in midwinter, so in the Spring they’re too busy to notice!

In winter, Finnea is thought to become the Crone. It is a time for quiet reflection, creature comforts and listening to the wisdom of elders. Regardless of when during the year an Amberians might have died, funeral ceremonies are held in the winter.

In the fall, Finnea is believed to grow into the Matron. This is a time for preparation, hard work and resolve. The harvests are brought in, affairs are resolved and families draw close. Amberians often put off difficult choices until the fall, which is an auspicious time to make such choices.

Amberians use spring as a time of play and learning, emulating Finnea’s childhood. It is traditional to learn one new skill every spring.

In summer, Finnea matures into the Maiden, a young adult full of ambition and industry. Amberians almost exclusively marry at this time of year.

In the latter half of the winter Finnea is considered to be an infant, vulnerable but full of promise. It is very auspicious for a child to be born at this time.

In the spring Finnea enters childhood. Sunny days are considered to represent Finnea at play, while spring storms are called “tantrums”

The deities of the Scattered Realms are generally distant beings- they served their people by carving out realms in the otherwise toxic world and letting air, water and warmth flow up from below. Mortals are expected to obey their faith leaders as a show of appreciation. (More)
