We are proud. The article ‘Archaeometallurgical investigation of the Nebra Sky Disc’ is among the top 100 most downloaded Scientific Reports from Nature in 2024.

The end of a fruitful week in Halle (Saale, Germany) with colleagues from the Landesmuseum, studying ornaments for my THREADS project @nouvelleaquitaine.bsky.social and bone tools with L. Doyon for his ERC ExOsTech research. Exciting insights @univbordeaux.bsky.social @cnrsecologie.bsky.social
Ancient humans were systematically producing bone tools as early as 1.5 million years ago, according to a study in Nature. Bone tools discovered in Tanzania pre-date previous evidence of systematic bone tool production by more than a million years. https://go.nature.com/3XpB20D 🏺 🧪
So nice to have these great colleagues here this week!
These beautiful artifacts, dated to around 40 ka, are housed at the @landesmuseumhalle.bsky.social, where many are on display. If you want to learn more about Ilsenhöhle at Ranis, I highly recommend checking out the latest publications by @marcel-weiss.bsky.social

Thrilled to share this paper born from a workshop uniting researchers for hands-on analysis of lithic assemblages Though they share the same stratigraphic and chronological window, the Châtelperronian and Uluzzian are fundamentally distinct

@mariesoressi.bsky.social
Thanks for that! I very welcome this paper and I am excited reading it (already started 😊). Congrats!
A great example of a collaborative effort (including @mariesoressi.bsky.social) to increase the comparability between lithic assemblages - here between the Uluzzian & Chatelperronian! We need more such work in all of the Paleolithic. link.springer.com/article/10.1... #archaeology #Palaeolithic

When did Neanderthals interbreed with ancient humans? New research sheds light on our ancestry www.nbcnews.com/science/scie... via @nbcnews
I am very happy and excited that our finds from Ranis along with those from the 1930s excavations (now stored at the Museum for Prehistory at Halle(Saale) led to these incredible results! A big Thank You to @arevsumer.bsky.social and the entire team for this amazing work!
I am very happy to share our new paper on the genetics of some of the first modern humans who ever lived in Europe! We sequenced nuclear DNA from 13 specimens from Ranis in Germany, and found that they belonged to at least 6 individuals. www.nature.com/articles/s41... (1/n)
New studies out yesterday show when modern humans last mated w/Neanderthals, but it's the details in this paper by @arevsumer.bsky.social @kaypruefer.bsky.social & co. that got me–like a mother and daughter found together after 45K years, or their close relative identified in a distant Czech cave.
‘Mystery woman’s DNA reveals close family ties between Europe’s earliest [sic] people’
Excited to share the groundbreaking work by @arevsumer.bsky.social, who successfully sequenced the oldest modern human genomes ever! 💀 A scientifically thrilling and deeply rewarding project to be part of!
Two very important papers released today on sapiens and neanderthal admixture
1. Neanderthal ancestry through time: Insights from genomes of ancient and present-day humans

2. Earliest modern human genomes constrain timing of Neanderthal admixture
