Iconic and relevant
Published some thoughts on the diocesan synod consultations for Living in Love and Faith shared-conversations.com/2025/06/07/a...
Genesis 2-3 is a story desgined to explain certain harsh realities of human living, much like Atrahasis functioned for ancient Mesopotamians. Both stories explain realities concerning childbearing and harsh agricultural realities.
There’s also something about the realm of the obituary. What once was something written in newspapers for those with something “worth writing about” becomes a medium that anyone can chime in on - but not necessarily with the understanding of what it is they’re doing.
Obituary? Eulogy? Reflection…?
Here and now, reduced to “I was with them once”.
And what was once a spontaneous conversation about recalled moments becomes a scroll through photos and subconscious decisions about public perceptions.
The moment is shared but the story is lost.
There’s an interesting question about “who is grief for?” here
For the deceased?
Or is grief a much more personal thing about us?
Posting a photo feels like it is making someone’s death “about us” and our branding, and I see the grossness.
But grief also includes storytelling and memory…
Go out and buy Ben & Jerry's icecream.
'The board of Ben & Jerry’s, the ice cream company founded by two progressive Jews, is reportedly calling Israel’s war in Gaza a “genocide” in a new statement'.
They are correct. #Gaza #Genocide

I think a lot about what Carl Sagan said in one of his final interviews.
This feels like the kind of thing Jesus would say as chief priests and teachers of the law tried to trap him in religious legalese traps.
Fun fact, the age demographic of the Church of England is so dire that when they measure the annual attendance statistics the age breakdown they use comprises of only three sections: 0-16, 16-70, and 70+
Which is big "the problem doesn't exist if we can't see it" energy from them.
Gooood morning sinners~! 🙃
This Byline Times story on Farage pictured with far-right activists has not been picked up by any established media outlet - including liberal/democratic/left publications. Why? Because people like being comfortable in their own power and status.
The newspaper I edit will keep sounding the alarm.

I gather a photo like this one is being used alongside letters about “the church’s need to attract more punters” as my friend put it.
This was taken at Salisbury Cathedral’s first pet service last September.
