Have finally calmed down enough to edit this short digiscoped video of the White-throated Needletail above Scarborough Castle on Friday. For obvious reasons it is a little bit shaky #YorkshireBirding

Interesting. I was hoping to use one to locate some ground sculkers such as Pittas but looks like that might be asking too much.

Hi Daniel - which thermal did you get ? Does it work during the day in rainforest or does the heat from the surrounding vegetation mask the birds ?

It’s my annual bat counting time where I count all the bats passing through the garden west to east through into Normanby Park between 9.20 & 9.45 amazingly this years total was exactly the same as last years!

One of the benefits of the cool overcast conditions was that I could get close to this resting Orangetip in the garden this morning. #ukbutterflies

Thank you for your reply, I will take a look. I did think about a headlamp as that would leave me hands free and allow me to digiscope but wasn't sure if they would be powerful enough.

Can anybody recommend a good quality torch for owling abroad ? Needs to have a good reach and preferably needs to be small and light weight. #BirdingGear #TravelBirding

A nice Barn Owl this evening, one of three seen along with a Short-eared Owl. We then waited for the planet parade and managed to see 5 out of 7. @lincsbirding.bsky.social
