This is what one of the biggest Diwali celebrations outside of India looks like.

Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate light overcoming darkness, hope overcoming hardship, and unity in our diversity.

In the wake of the heinous terrorist attack at Heaton Park Synagogue, I know many in London’s Jewish community will be feeling afraid. My thoughts are with the families of Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz at this terrible time.

Places of worship should be sanctuaries and safe havens for all. No one should feel scared to attend their synagogue, church, mosque, gurdwara or temple.

As we head into the weekend, there will be increased police presence in and around synagogues across the capital.

Our Jewish communities must be able to live and worship free from the fear of harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or violence. The fact they cannot do so is utterly unacceptable.

It is clear that there is much more to do to rid our society of the poison of antisemitism, and we must redouble our efforts to stamp out this vile hatred wherever it rears its ugly head.

Now, more than ever, Londoners from all communities must stand together, show allyship to our Jewish friends and neighbours, and be united in our rejection of hatred.

On the 24th anniversary of 9/11, London stands united with our friends in the United States as we remember the thousands of innocent people who were tragically killed, including many British citizens, and the heroic emergency services who ran towards danger to help others.

A graphic of an iceberg, where above the surface there are examples of how our mental health system is in crisis.

Under the surface, there are examples of societal causes of mental illness.

'Notting Hill Carnival's Success Shows That Hate and Division Will Never Win' Sadiq Khan, Labour's Mayor of London, writes for Byline Times on why the city's haters need to admit that "diversity is a strength to be celebrated, not a weakness to be hidden"

This year’s Notting Hill Carnival again captured the very best of our capital city.

A city where we believe that our diversity is a strength to be celebrated.

A London without Carnival is unthinkable. bylinetimes.com/2025/08/26/s...
