04.10.2025 13:00 β π 12 π 6 π¬ 0 π 0Modern βjournalismβ just canβt call out dangerous nonsense can it? βMany experts are scepticalβ is putting it far too mildly.
22.09.2025 18:29 β π 3 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Long known for being chemistry's reliable workhorse, it's now being claimed that stirrer bars do next to nothing in the 300+ organic reactions one team examined.
22.09.2025 08:34 β π 3 π 2 π¬ 0 π 3The idea that paracetamol is responsible for autism is the biggest pile of horse manure Iβve ever heard as a scientist. Itβs irresponsible, itβs dangerous. Itβs anti-scientific political ideology gone mad.
22.09.2025 12:44 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0For generations doctors have understood that germs β like bacteria or viruses β cause infectious diseases.
Β
Yet we now have an HHS Secretary casting doubt on the germ theory β the foundation of modern medicine.
Thatβs not only unacceptable, it is dangerous. RFK Jr. must resign.
Anybody tried turning the world off and then on again recently? Just in case.
13.09.2025 22:01 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Tthereβs zero percent chance that this doesnβt go horribly wrong.
01.07.2025 23:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0βOn todayβs X, #AcademicTwitter is dead. And most scholars in the world do not want to be active on what the platform has become.β ~ @claesdevreese.bsky.social

09.04.2025 18:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0'Bluesky has overtaken its flailing rival X in hosting posts related to new academic research, indicating the platform is fast becoming the go-to place for scholars to share their work.'

19.03.2025 12:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's in good hands though at the RSC under the stewardship of EiC Martina Stenzel (www.unsw.edu.au/staff/martin...), who was one our first Scientific Editors and also one of the best too!
12.03.2025 18:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0MH (as we call it internally) was our first journal to use a scientific editor model and introduce "Focus Articles" and "New concepts" boxes so it was a fun journal to get to grips with. I haven't worked on it for about 7 years, but it's still a journal that I care a lot about.
12.03.2025 18:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Honestly cannot believe it's been a decade of @materialshorizons.rsc.org. I was the journal coordinator when it started so I remember some of these papers pretty well and was the handling editor for a couple of them as well. #ChemSky #RealTimeChem
12.03.2025 18:18 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Interesting statistics from eLife about their Publish, Review, Curate model. Notably it does come at the expense of quite a high "reject without review" rate.

28.02.2025 16:53 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Update: autistic child has since been suspended from school for 2 days before half term and now banned from the attending holiday camp due to her behaviour. Not sure how weβll manage Easter or god forbid the summer holidays unless we can find some kind of SEN provision. Not liking 2025 tbh.

If I could afford to do that I would but not the case Iβm afraid. Just for fun I also caught COVID this week. Yay 2025!
04.02.2025 20:00 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If Iβm not particularly active here at the moment itβs really a bandwidth issue with my brain. Between general busy nature of my job & parenting I really donβt have much time for anything. Also your autistic child being excluded from after school club really is not conducive to productivity at allβ¦
31.01.2025 12:11 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 1All these years of running #RealTimeChem did I miss a trick by not becoming a crazy right wing nut job promoting conspiracies and lies about chemistry? I could have been rich, rich I tell you.
30.01.2025 11:19 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm delighted to share our opinion on #papermills published in Nature. Science is flooded with papers from paper mills.Certain steps can be taken, but this is a challenge that neither universities nor journals are ready to face. Some use paper mills to their advantage.

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.
Iβm not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or βpauseβ in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
I already felt good about leaving X Elon, there's no need to keep selling it to me.

21.01.2025 09:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Agreed. He's really young so could be president for the next 70-80 years. He's Kim Jung Un basically. Trump loves North Korea, he saw in that country exactly what he wants. Hell he said so once that he wanted people to treat him as they do KJU. It's sick, but here we are.
