Me: sometimes I stay up all night and I don't go to bed. It's called "bonus time".
My loved ones: no it's not.
When people first hear about "jawboning" -- meaning government pressure to suppress speech through threats and other extra-legal measures, like what the FCC is doing now -- they always want to talk about "coercion" by the govt.
I've always thought this is a red herring. Current events show why. 1/
Free speech scholars say ABC's decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show indefinitely represents "jawboning," when government officials pressure private companies to suppress speech.

ICE is going after taxpayer data, food stamp data – and now health data. This violates federal privacy laws. Check out our amicus brief in the lawsuit against HHS disclosing Medicaid data to DHS.

Public-interest speech? Political speech? Prior-restraint? Right to protest? I will chose the interamerican system any day.
18.06.2025 03:46 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0My hot take is that the inter-American free speech system and jurisprudence has the foundation to be more protective of speech than the 1A . Yet, there’s a lack of regulation around low-value speech or compelled speech that is hard to operationalize at national level.

Q: "What do you think is the biggest threat in cybersecurity right now? Is it post-quantum computing? Is it AI?"
A: Fascism. It's fascism.

Thinking about devastating cuts to NSF: US gov-funded science has been the engine upon which most of the tech wealth was generated. But the oligarchs (currently hoarding much of that $) think it’s their own brilliance & not the accident of standing close to the scientific engine that made them rich.
