TBC, I have said repeatedly that they must read the whole thing so that they can be equipped to do the in-class writing. Lectured on the deleterious effects of AI, etc. Unfortunately, this is a case of having to discover consequences for themselves :(
A student handed in an empty worksheet at the end of class telling me that although he had read the summary of the story on ChatGPT, he did not realize that he had to read the whole story to do the in-class writing work (close reading of literary devices).

This nonsense enters the discourse every few cycles and it will lead me to an early grave. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) makes the course accessible for *everyone*, it does not give students who need accommodations an advantage! ALSO, basic accommodation is extra time on exams. THAT'S IT.
