I feel really lucky to be part of a fabulous Discord group that encourages me to use my spinning wheel more regularly.

Thank you! It starts with a wave motif right below the cuff and then alternates between a trout (swimming towards your ankles) and an arrow pointing down. It’s a gentle reminder that we all live downstream from one another and to act as such :)

A tester’s set of Downstream socks resting on a marble countertop. This one features the Mountain Colors colorways “zinnia” and “teal” and boy do they pop! The Zinnia is a variegated yarn with yellows and pinks, oranges and greens. The teal is a true teal, deep and rich like a healthy river in winter.

Another version of the Downstream pattern, this time in lime green and a variegated teal/green. The socks show off the opposite color options. One has lime as the MC and the other has lime as the CC.

Two socks on sock blockers are resting at the base of a cottonwood tree. While the main color is a dusty blue, the colorwork is in a variegated tan color. The colorwork starts with a wave motif that moves into a trout swimming towards the ankle with a downward arrow reminding us that we’re all downstream of each other. The heel flap and toe feature a checkered design pattern that happens to be extra durable…perfect for wading boots.

A teal, handknit sock on a wooden table. The colorwork is in a tan, which contrasts beautifully in a fish pattern that alternates with a downward pointing arrow (hence the name “Downstream”). The heel and toe of the sock feature a checkered, reinforced stitch which continues to add interest from cuff to toe!

Here’s the finished Downstream Sock. Pattern release later this month after I get some photos!

Ugh. I understand your pain. The biggest things that helps me were:
- switching to 9” circulars instead of DPNs for socks
- keeping the CC in my left hand and having the floats “lower” than the MC floats.
- learning to knit the CC continental style so I’m not constantly dropping/picking up yarn

The beginning of a knitted sock rests on a wooden table. The main color is a dark blue-green and the colorwork leg is worked in a variegated tan. The motif of the colorwork features waves and trout with a downward arrow separating the trout…hence the pattern’s name: The Downstream Socks. After the colorwork is a two color her flap, but the sock remains unfinished.

I keep pretty quiet over here. I try to give space for those who need to be heard.

But somedays, I need to share! This sock pattern will be released later this month and I’ll be doing a discount code for BlueSky followers!
