What an incredible + RARE sky around 8:30a.
These photos by Chris Hager and Luke Fisher show super impressive display of atmospheric optics, including bright sun dogs on either side of the sun along with halos and arcs above. They form as sunlight passes thru ice crystals in high clouds.

DC pulled off a ridiculous weather flip: 86 Wednesday to as low as 33 with snow today.
53-degree drop is largest 24-hour fall on record at National. 77 today & 86 Wed are warmest same and prior day to snow accumulation, too.

2:55p: Precip, mostly snow, is pretty much done from DC/I-95 to the west, but not before accumulating 0.5-1" in some areas west and north of the Beltway; a little snow even stuck to some roads. The precip will gradually exit areas east of DC/I-95 over the next hour or so.

1:20pm Thursday: Precip mostly snow from NW DC to the north and west, where temps are near freezing and a coating of snow has accumulated on grass. Roads just wet.
From SE DC to the south and east, it’s a mix of rain and snow w/ temps in mid-30s.
Precip will taper from NW to SE through ~4pm

This is bonkers.
Today, we hit record highs of 85-86 across DC area + had evening tstorms and tornado warnings.
Tomorrow, temps may drop into 30s w/ chance of wet snow mixing w cold rain.
The 24-hour temp change? 45 to 50F.
Crazy but a great example of how you can get 3 seasons in 1 day!
