I saw a woman on the train pull out Martyr by Kaveh Akbar, and I could not stop myself from telling her I loved that book.

I think my heart skipped a beat 💀 #booksky

I definitely could make a favorite books of 2025 list…but that would be quitting!

12 days is so much time to find a new fave #booksky

It was hard to just narrow it down! The prose in the book and stunning and there were so many quotes I tabbed.

I also loved exploring the idea of how to make your death meaningful. Made me very introspective

Hand holding a copy of the book Can’t Get Enough by Kennedy Ryan

Consider this my formal apology with tears for my post yesterday. I thought this one was getting here on May 20th and I was salty 💀 #booksky #blackbooksky

Picked up Mosab Abu Toha’s new release, Forest of Noise, and each page has been a beautifully written gut punch. Such a powerful poetry collection #booksky

✨ Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

You should’ve read this book already…But if you haven’t, read this if you want an engaging YA fantasy with a well thought out magic system and characters that take you through all the emotions. Starting Bloodmarked soon, and I’m so excited to get back into this world.

✨ A Burst of Light: And Other Essays - Audre Lorde

Read this if you’re in the mood for some black feminist wisdom or want a thought-provoking examination of life and legacy. Really enjoyed my time with this one and can’t wait to read more of Lorde’s work.

✨ Capone I & II - Jahquel J

Read this if you need a fast-paced urban romance with all the drama and a swoon-worthy mmc. I fear I’m late to the party with this one, but Jahquel did her big one.

✨ When the Music Hits by Amber Oliver

Read this if you want a contemporary fiction about the good, bad of the music industry. This book comes out on June 17th and has excellent commentary on how black and brown artists are treated by major record labels. Solid debut from this author!

✨ Malinalli by Veronica Chapa

Read this if the only thing you’ve heard about this historical figure is that she’s evil, or if you want a mythological retelling of an important woman in Mexican history. This was a long read, but I appreciated the voice this gave back to Malintzin years later.

✨ Dearborn by Ghassan Zeineddine

Read this if you’re in the mood for an engaging short story collection highlighting the Lebanese-American experience in a small town across multiple decades. Great set of stories and a great audiobook read with multiple narrators!

Read this if you’re in the mood for a sweet contemporary romance between two celebrities growing from their previous relationships. Absolutely loved this, and I can’t wait to reread it at some point.

My two hyperfixations this week will be the nba playoffs and the movie Sinners when I see it…

Anyone have standalone book recs about basketball or vampires? 😅
