What a splendid Sunday morning, I got the back hall wall painted early then I knit for a while listening to “HMS Surprise” for the umpteenth time. I’m going to make bread now.

I don't understand your argument, I would have expected the British government to have done something to alleviate the suffering not a cotton worker in Manchester.

That's not true, there was only a potato blight all of the other crops were in plentiful supply...they could have fed people.

Sure, however I don't think many of them cared if a few hundreds or indeed thousands of Irish starved to death so long as the harvest kept flowing towards England.

My mother wouldn't eat sugar for years as she was told the Germans poisoned it, she was a bit dim though!
