Hey, @holliehorror.bsky.social- just passing this on. Vincent Price recorded an audiobook for one of his cookbooks and it's on YouTube. I find it very soothing.
Also the curries but not everyone enjoys curry.
I recommend the Baked Ham in a crust. I'm blanking on the actual name of the recipe, but it involves covering a ham with a pastry. I made it for a Vincent Price themed night, naturally. There's also one called Friday Chicken that was a big hit in my household. Also, any of the steaks are good.
There's a copy on eBay right now for 10 dollars. It's a live auction and has 8 hours to go but you might pick it up cheap. I don't have the nice 50th Anniversary version- maybe someday. It's one of my better cookbooks, especially since I only buy novelty ones and this one's better than a novelty.
I actually have EVERY Vincent Price cookbook (I think). I recommend A Treasury of Great Recipes if you're looking for mid-century cooking. I have made meals from this cookbook.
You can totally do this! My dream my entire life has been to work in a library, so I'm always happy when someone else decides to go for a job in one of America's few actual treasures.

Today, for my birthday, I made Hamburger Helper Deluxe Beef Stroganoff (I figured I was a sophisticated enough adult to go for the Deluxe option). It was pretty good! I ate a large bowl full.
Ten minutes later, my wife walked in with surprise McDonalds.
Now I'm preemptively writing my will.

I've spent so many years cooking (being the only man on my father's side to even do more than boil a hot dog) that I'm worried the Beef Stroganoff won't match what I could make myself. On the other hand, your positive review of the classic cheeseburger makes me want to give it a try.
When I was a kid, my mom basically only made Hamburger Helper in an electric skillet (the oven never worked or was never used in my lifetime). About once a month, I have an intense yearning for Hamburger Helper Beef Stroganoff. One of these days I'm going to see if it matches my memory.
