07.10.2025 13:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Also, Iβm not implying intent. I just think this is a very difficult time and we (journos) need to be super careful with our framing choices.
07.10.2025 13:36 β π 26 π 2 π¬ 2 π 0I am not insinuating CNN was trying to trick people. I am a journalist with 25 years of experience (including at CNN) saying this was poorly done. Standards matter. Doing our jobs well in very difficult times means being exacting in what we put out. I think it showed poor news judgment.
07.10.2025 13:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The post definitely. I could make an argument for using it on the story. The βwhat is the insurrection actβ hed is ok with it. One that implies Portland/Chicago would not be ok.
Itβs a tough editorial call imo. Because this is such a charged issue.
Yes. Most people will not read the piece or look at the date on the photo. Iβve been a journo for 25 years, and we know how readers will interact with this. This is poorly done.

07.10.2025 13:14 β π 17 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I know and respect Zach and the piece is good. Itβs just a bad photo choice based on entirely how we know readers interact with stories and photos.
07.10.2025 13:13 β π 76 π 3 π¬ 5 π 0I read the piece and I like and respect Zach. I still think itβs a bad combo.
07.10.2025 13:12 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I have read the article and I know and respect Zach. But when a post circulates like this, without the impotent context, and you place it as a header image, you are strongly risking the reader drawing the wrong conclusion
07.10.2025 13:11 β π 54 π 5 π¬ 2 π 0This picture is from 1992 in LA and using it in this post and story shows terrible news judgment.

07.10.2025 13:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0β.. it appears to justify an open-ended war against a secret list of groups, giving the president power to designate drug traffickers as enemy combatants and have them summarily killed without legal review.β

DJT post on Truth Social: "Japan has just elected its first female Prime Minister, a highly respected person of great wisdom and strength. This is tremendous news for the incredible people of Japan. Congratulations to all! President Donald J. Trump"
I know these details are tiresome, but Japan did not, in fact, just elect its first female prime minister. Sanae Takaichi was elected leader of the Liberal Democratic Party and is *expected to become* prime minister. But someone else is in that job right now.
