I must continue to insist that this is not a strong regime. It does not have the kind of pan-societal support needed to enforce Gleichshaltung. It has significant elite buy-in and a small popular coalition, but it is brittle and feeble and will collapse if pressed hard enough.

13.08.2025 02:27 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The Online Safety Act has become a "political punchbag", as one senior government official told the Financial Times. This official, who remained anonymous, was quoted saying that companies were being "overzealous" in their application of the law, perhaps intentionally, to undermine its credibility.
Platforms aren't over-censoring to sink your lousy bill. They're over-censoring because the bill is vague, the penalties massive and compliance is a logistical nightmare.
This happens every time the government gets into the censorship game. EVERY DAMN TIME.
And it will continue to happen.
How bad is the Online Safety Act roll out going?
UK officials have started spreading rumors that it's the internet's fault — accusing sites like Reddit and Twitter of purposely overcensoring to undermine the unpopular censorship law.

AI cannot provide therapy.
It can, however, cause serious harm to both the person seeking help, those around them, and those of us that like a livable environment.

This is the thing: Writing is meaning. The reason we write things is to express some sort of meaning, to pass along important information, to convey a human emotion or sensation. It doesn't matter whether the writing is grammatically correct, or vividly expressed. It matters that it came from you. That is the point of writing. If you ask a Chatbot to write something for you, you are being fundamentally unhuman and foundationally dishonest. I am not going to bend on this one. If it requires an Al bot for you to express something to me, you and I are probably not actually friends.
