I think I get more out of "naive" art than I do from formally accomplished art. The non-artist will solve artistic problems in a unique way, a way only they have thought of. They're far more likely to show me something I've never seen, or even thought of, before. Sometimes it is funny! That's good!
I know laughter can be used in a ironic or mean way and I'm certainly culpable for moments in my life that has occurred, but my brain don't go for that anymore. I look for sincerity more than anything to make fun of. And sincerity can be embarrassing, sure. But it moves me in a way I can't anymore.
When I tend to laugh at these kinds of comics, songs, movies, etc, it is out of a child-like joy and wonder being found again. It is simply just... the Perfect thing for that Moment in time when I perceive it. The only thing I can think to do in a moment like that is laugh. "Ha! How perfect!"
seconding all Jess is saying here in this thread. art from non-artist's is so much more interesting and fun to me than the most accomplished cartoonist
