People like me who knew how to use double pump found it to be extremely fun but it was really uninteractive and oppressive for those that couldn't master it. It was the healthier move but I think I tend to enjoy unintended metas as long as it's not game breaking or universally unfun.

Always depends on the mechanic. Sometimes devs will lean into unintended uses of game mechanics if the player base tends to agree that its more fun

Weapon swapping in early Fortnite is what allowed "double pump" to be meta, plenty found it fun skill expression but most complained so it got removed

Was thinking about this the other day, the vulnerability the devs had to overcome putting out a product that they couldn't patch once it ships. A LOT more focus on QA as part of development back in the day as a result.
