All in all good luck. It's forever tricky balancing what might help promote and what is a cost you can't take on, it's an incredibly difficult learning curve. But find yourself a good independent bookshop owner - they know the business inside out, they'll know the answers better than anyone.
03.11.2025 15:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0With that in mind, and with us having to cover the transportation of the books to the larger stores, we'd be making a loss working with the chains. Hence it's links, conversations and making deals you can afford with people you want to work with. Getting an article in the local paper helps.
03.11.2025 15:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Instead we're sticking with local independent shops. They will work with you, often at a discount (trade commission, sometimes 25% of the cost price but up to 35-40% at times), whereas the larger shops such as chains can be 70% easily.
03.11.2025 15:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We then entered the book into Neilsen's Title Editor, including the ISBN. The larger bookshops trawl this and enter the publication to their websites. However you have to contact the distributor who works with them (different for different shops) and agree a discount with them. We've decided not to.
03.11.2025 15:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0We're a tiny publisher. Basically we just looked up all the shops, contacted them, worked out their discount and made a deal with them. We bought an ISBN, contacted local press and got the word out. The small local websites and newspapers love a local news story like a book about the area.
03.11.2025 15:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm getting the sense he's more David Marina at the moment.
02.11.2025 17:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It was great. Not sure Sounds works outside the UK but let me know if you can't listen to it.
01.11.2025 19:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The most Government thing ever, they want to charge VAT on the payments they give to people they deport.

It's hard to get anything into the inner circle when most attempts are brickwalled.

A few weeks back we met up BBC Shropshire to record a collection of stories taken from 'The Folklore of the Tanat Valley - Chwedlau Gwerin Dyffryn Tanat' for their 'Secret Shropshire' series, on location at Llanymynech Hill.

Lovely to hear Jack Hunter on BBC Shropshire's 'Secret Shropshire' series talking about the folklore of Llanymynech Hill and the wider Tanat Valley.
