Will my pulling my stuff hurt his bottom line? Obviously not even remotely. I already hated his incredibly artist-hostile wealth-extracting business philosophies; him now taking that wealth and dumping it into weapons development takes it into a whole other sphere. I'm not going to participate.

Finally took all my music down from Spotify, or at least all of it that I directly control. As you've heard, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek invested ⅔ of a BILLION dollars into military technology company Helsing SE (of which he is also a chairman) with a focus on AI applications. Yeah, no thanks.

My overnight flight got me to Stockholm early on the 5th. Checked in to my quirky hotel, napped hard, went to the show. What followed was an amazing night of amazing performances, + 3 more days getting to hang out and catch up with dear friends, some of whom I haven't seen in 15 years or more.

It's no exaggeration to say that this homebrew software program that Johan wrote legitimately altered the trajectory of my life, enriching it in ways I could never have expected.

That little side-project wound up, to my own astonishment, growing legs, wheels, and wings, taking me around the world, broadening my horizons, opening my eyes, & putting me in the path of exceptionally brilliant and talented people, some of whom I'm fortunate to also count among my close friends.

I first learned about LSDJ in 2001, at the time immediately ordering a cartridge, & launching what I conceived of as a fun, obscure, amusing little musical side-project that nobody would ever hear.

The destination wasn't arbitrary; friends there were throwing an event the following day celebrating the 25th anniversary of Little Sound DJ, Johan Kotlinski's bespoke homebrew software for turning the Nintendo Game Boy into a musical instrument / sequencer.

Last Friday (4th of July), I was unshakably depressed by the theme of the holiday, especially in light of the nauseating political developments immediately preceding. ~ 1:30 that afternoon, I decided "fuck this," & credit-carded myself a plane ticket to Stockholm. 3½ hours later, I was on the plane.

Completely agreed. Abject cowardice and spineless capitulation. It's pathetic.

Absolute insanity. I feel sick. Nothing is off the table now. Our lives are in the hands of absolutely unhinged, deranged people who suffer from some deeply pathetic, cowardly need to prove something by harming others. Complete detachment from reality.

Thanks Luke. Yeah this was bad. Landed me in the ER. Throat swollen enough to interfere with swallowing, speech, and breathing. And that's leaving aside the whole "razor blades" thing, which was genuinely agonizing. Nearly recovered now though, another day or two should do it. Stay safe out there…!

Thanks! Not that I've personally heard of so far. But I caught it from somewhere, so it's lurking. I'm pretty cautious in general too, masking on subways, sanitizing constantly like the germophobe I've become, etc. — obviously wasn't enough. Thanks for spreading the word, this one is bad.

Can confirm. Recovering from this now. Possibly the most excruciating bout of sickness I've had in my life. You do not want to catch this.
