Kinda sounds like Ann Arbor — it used to have a bunch of bookstores when I was a kid, including multiple focused on different levels of students, but as Borders ballooned and then Amazon did, most got crushed or pushed out. Last I looked, the main student bookstore is mostly sweatshirts & gear now.
Those Streetviews are a couple years old, and it's less than a mile away, so I just took a walk down to see if they're still accurate, and...
Nope, nothing's changed.
Perhaps Wiltberger also should be pedestrianized, or at least turned into a "shared street", so the sidewalks could be widened to ~the entire street (or at least big enough to get around the giant streetlights) instead of a tacked-on afterthought interrupted at every alley and driveway.

would've loved to ask if @janeese4dc.bsky.social has any proposals or plans to make the new LGBTQ Center in Shaw accessible—I've been trying to point out since its location was first announced that the sidewalks on that street aren't remotely ADA-compliant.

Haven't lived there for years, but when PA's indoor smoking ban took effect, it exempted bars that made less than 20% of their money from food.
One bar owner told me he specifically expanded his food menu so he'd be over the line and be "forced" to ban smoking inside.
