Another tough day for team β€œthere’s no point in complaining about AI, just accept it.”

Kinda sounds like Ann Arbor β€” it used to have a bunch of bookstores when I was a kid, including multiple focused on different levels of students, but as Borders ballooned and then Amazon did, most got crushed or pushed out. Last I looked, the main student bookstore is mostly sweatshirts & gear now.

Brick sidewalk narrows to two feet wide at an alley entrance north of the DC Center Brick sidewalk narrows to two feet wide before crossing a brick driveway apron Narrow (maaaybe 5 feet wide), unbuffered brick sidewalk next to a paved alley with a couple parked cars in the distance.

Those Streetviews are a couple years old, and it's less than a mile away, so I just took a walk down to see if they're still accurate, and...

Nope, nothing's changed.

Perhaps Wiltberger also should be pedestrianized, or at least turned into a "shared street", so the sidewalks could be widened to ~the entire street (or at least big enough to get around the giant streetlights) instead of a tacked-on afterthought interrupted at every alley and driveway.

unfortunately couldn't make it to this.

would've loved to ask if @janeese4dc.bsky.social has any proposals or plans to make the new LGBTQ Center in Shaw accessibleβ€”I've been trying to point out since its location was first announced that the sidewalks on that street aren't remotely ADA-compliant.

It’s important to note that @janeese4dc.bsky.social is able to make the connection that cars don’t support businesses, people do.

Haven't lived there for years, but when PA's indoor smoking ban took effect, it exempted bars that made less than 20% of their money from food.

One bar owner told me he specifically expanded his food menu so he'd be over the line and be "forced" to ban smoking inside.

Maryland westbound? That's a pretty significant hill coming down from the Aldi, etc, though I don't know if that's the route their trucks'd use.

"If all our mayoral candidates are looking at it as an option, that says to me the conversation may happen in future budgets," said @cmcharlesallen.bsky.social to me just now. "Why has the mayor been so afraid to have this conversation over the last 3 years? It seems weird."

…ok, but wasn't that why Council said "okay, then, update it and _then_ release it" .... like three years ago?

And as with all these sorts of opposing voices coming from β€œinside the house,” the response is:

It’s great that ___ works for you, but the rest of us want ___ that works for everyone. You can stay on the sidelines, or hopefully open your mind. But if you keep opposing, we’ll leave you behind.

i mean, they're closing 9th from Constitution to Penn, i imagine that between the crash barriers and probably viewing area, they're going to have to close that intersection & thus the tunnel anyway...

i don't know a damn thing about race courses, but this seems like an awfully short one.

I'm also moderately surprised they didn't figure out a way to get the 9th or 12th St Tunnel in there somehow….

Per spamcop, the attachment header said it was actually a HEIC image. Which as far as i can tell (from actual HEIC images--thanks to fieldwork with iphone users) this Windows machine doesn't have the ability to read anyway...

any indication what sparked it...?

that little clip just looks like the goalie being an asshole and literally rubbing it in that the shot was blocked and he won, but....
i don't think you usually get a whole-ass hockey brawl out of that piddly sort of sore-winner nonsense, do you?

There is an attachment with a file name that looks like the sort of thing automatically generated by a copier/scanner -- "Payment Receipt Page Copy random string of numbers today's date.pdf" -- but no way am I even trying to figure out if that even is a PDF let alone see what's in it.

insidious little spam? virus? package:

"Payment receipt? For what? what the hell?" and then you either open the "PDF" or reply to sender and either way surely unleash some vile daemon or other.

(Needless to say, i am not even attempting to determine if that even _is_ a PDF. Immediate hard delete…)
