I call it American Paganism

American evangelicalism is a separate religion from Christianity, with it's own theosophy, doctrine, ecclesiology, and ritual, reifying white nationalism and melded itself to Trump as an emperor worship cult, and now acts as a state religion.

Like I was saying (yesterday?), one of the many things going on here is a war of American "evangelicalism" against mainline Protestants, ordinary Catholics, and everyone else. It's hard to overstate how morally...alien...the messaging here is.

It's an ironclad principle of contracts that, once both sides agree to something, neither party can unilaterally change the terms willy-nilly without the other party's consent

The reason that principle exists is because without it *contracts wouldn't work*

This funding deal is the same concept

Also: it makes zero sense to do a "deal" on any spending when Trump has already proven he will impound appropriated money at any time for any reason and SCOTUS has said repeatedly that him doing so is fine

Separate from my occasional tepid defense of buyouts, the EA deal doesn't make sense: it's mature company growing at like 5% with really fat margins already and it only does like $2-ish billion in cashflow. If you load it up with $20 billion of debt at 7.5% you've vaporized all your profits already.

I think we are in fact pretty clear on the science for a drug that a billion people take every year that has been on the market for 75 years

Like say what you will about the first two sentences but the last two are insane, because even if we aren't very interested in foreign affairs are very interested in us and much more important global leadership comes to those who actually put up the cash to underwrite the international system
