Every AI evangelist makes it sound like I’m basically gonna be a witch in a decade because I can still tell time, make change, write cursive, read/write/speak multiple languages, read maps, hold focus for longer than two seconds, do math in my head, engage with culture

A do-or-die moment for the scientific enterprise Reflecting on our paper β€œThe entities enabling scientific fraud at scale are large, resilient, and growing rapidly”

Today, our article "The entities enabling scientific fraud at scale are large, resilient, and growing rapidly" is finally published in PNAS. I hope that it proves to be a wake-up-call for the whole scientific community.

Wily, brown and black striped brindle dog with dark muzzle and pointy brown ears walking on the street

People on #PawBoost have spotted our #lostdog Wily. She was seen near 22nd and Rhode Island heading south. We’re calling into SFACC. Please if you’re in that general area look out for her. #sfdogs

I’m just so glad she’s out there and ok right now, and I can put the worst fears behind me for a bit.

This is about as morally crystal-clear as you can get, if you ask me.

SF, please help me find my dog. She was lost by her sitter in the mission. But when she escaped 2 years ago, she made it all the way to Golden Gate Park. She is very sweet but very shy.

I am very worried about her getting hurt while she’s loose.

Just a polite reminder that we owe the concept of zombies to voodoun/Haitian cultures as an externalization of the fear of being compelled to labor beyond what was supposed to be the Absolute Freedom of death.

Everything's on the table.

Republicans are using every method they can, whether it's cheating or breaking the law.

We've got to do everything we can to stand up and fight back β€” we're not sitting around and complaining from the sidelines when we have the ability to stop them.

We inherited a pod espresso machine from someone who moved away, so I had to get the woke compostable pods. Plastic pods are the tampon applicators of coffee.

I’ll let you know if this blend improves my executive function.

So I saw this dog painting going around as a meme and, me being me, I tracked down the source. Giovanna Garzoni (1600-1670), a woman painter who did kickass still life.

Gouache goals.

It's cool that the reward for being financially successful is apparently being in rooms with a lot of dudes who don't read, or you know, think good.

Should have added "again".

it's also totally acceptable to carry/display the book you want to promote or make other people think you're reading, even if actually reading a book in a moving vehicle is a nope.

Annalee Newitz in a dark blue tailcoat, and magenta tuxedo trousers with a contrast stripe, and silver shoes, reads from a lectern on a highly polished wood floor two step dais in a church in front of a stained glass window depicting the story of the good samaritan. Alex Hanna wearing a yellow top and jeans is sitting on a chair to Annalee's right reading along. A person the foreground is wearing a black hoodie with no face from Spirited Away, so this is obviously a very cool, smart, and fun crowd who likes good things.

Yesterday I attended the first stop of the Automatic Noodle book tour where @annaleen.bsky.social instructed us from the lectern in immaculate drip.

@alexhanna.bsky.social was a terrific interlocutor. I am excited to read The AI Con. This event on a sunny day decreased my ambient despair by 75%.

Paris said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change. Air pollution fell substantially as the city restricted car traffic and made way for parks and bike lanes.

β€œAir pollution fell substantially as Paris restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.”

Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability & quality of life.

Common sense.

Such a no-brainer, it’s remarkable that more cities HAVEN’T done the same.
