Lock up your gachapon, I’m headed back in 2.5 weeks. I’ll be there just short of two months this year. Not enough but I didn’t think I’d be able to go at all in 2025.
Often I was but if my mom walked into the room with no context she just assumed I was being an unwanted pest as her first instinct.
I’m 50 years old and I just woke up from that nightmare. I just wanted to answer the question and share with another human but shut down & shamed in public instead.
Our neurodivergent kids are always listening.
I guess my subconscious worries I’m still not worthy of talking with the grownups.
Scenario: You’re a child in a room with adults. One of the adults is talking about a subject and notices you’re very interested. They ask you a question and you’re excited to answer. But before you open your mouth your mom tells at you to stop bothering the adults. Your soul dies a little more.

I don’t think I’ve seen flights to Japan this cheap in well over a decade. $840 for JAL economy RT flights to Oita in October. It’s criminal to not go this autumn!
(That’s for my husband’s flights, only $50 more than my Sept-Nov Tokyo tickets 😮 and NOT using the free domestic flight scheme.)
Ok I think it’s never going to stop surprising me that for a 4/5 week stay, Tokyo continues to be one of the cheapest options. Other places just don’t have the short stay rental opportunities (or at least in English). So looks like Tokyo, again, in between work in Osaka & Oita.
It was so good that I made it at home or community events for years. But it was basically a giant bowl of ice cream float so of course it was tasty. It had been adapted to be non-alcoholic but I’ve never made the original. I should someday, but I no longer need punch for 20+ people at once!
So I have things to do in Japan in mid September and late October. My colleague is going twice to hit those but personally I’d prefer to stay in Japan in between. But to make that feasible I’d need *cheap* accommodation in between as budget is tight this year. Anyone have recommendations?

My brain loves to just randomly remind me of useless facts from the past. The punch recipe from our high school’s national honor society inductions is the current one floating rent free in my head.
Gotta love the time of year where it’s $600/month for my essential medications until I meet my $3000 deductible. Used to be certain medications were excluded from that but no more. 😓

I did have work and class but yes. I was worse about Paris as I’d hunt down every single remnant of my favorite time period (window, door frame, whatever) and spend a weekend photographing them. London stuff I’d just fit in around my schedule. Lots of weird alleys at lunchtime!
Ah yeah I was living there at the time & studying the history of London. I had too many other options I liked better than Ackroyd’s style. I think I got 2/3 through it but it wasn’t for me. Kudos on finishing!
