A huge blow was dealt to hurricane forecasters this week as a critical tool was abruptly terminated by the Department of Defense and NOAA. The immediate discontinuation of data from three weather satellites will severely impact hurricane forecasts this season and beyond. More ⬇️

Trump nominates official with ties to antisemitic extremists to lead ethics agency President Trump nominated Paul Ingrassia to lead the Office of Special Counsel, a government agency that enforces ethics law and protects whistleblowers, despite Ingrassia's links to extremists.

They are nominating 30 year olds who proudly flaunt ties to extremist anti-semites, but we are supposed to play along with anti-semitism claims putatively plaguing higher education.

NSF, NASA and NIH budgets per year, inflation adjusted from 2000-2025 along with the proposed cuts. NSF includes research component only. Massive cuts across all sectors, well below support spanning 25 years.

How bad will it be? Catastrophic.

Proposed cuts to #NSF, #NIH, and #NASA will set the US R&D landscape back 25 yrs+, cause economic and job loss now, and undermine innovations to come.

She told a story about getting to a federal agency & speaking to them before DOGE teens could, thereby delaying DOGE’s access to sensitive data until a judge could stop them altogether. That one anecdote was more reassuring than the entirety of Auchincloss’ call. 3/3

Auchincloss chided a constituent for asking for more passion & anger from dems in congress, and said we just had to vote for dems in the next election. AOC seems to understand that what we want from congress is to know that they are using our votes NOW to stop Trump & Musk. 2/3

A couple students in my program put together a lovely slideshow about how to call your senators and representatives in congress… google has removed it “because it is in violation of our Terms of Service”. Absolutely insane.
