there's an actual genre of analysis that acknowledges that for generations people used to buy and sell other humans, aided by a comprehensive system of apartheid that continued for generations later, but nevertheless blames the resurgence of open bigotry on a decade or so of cringe Tumblr posts

The Enduring Fantasy of “Feeding the World” – Spectre Journal Members of the Agroecology Research-Action Collective argue against the productivist logic underlying the "feed-the-world" approaches to feed security.

Such trenchant analysis of the myth of feeding the world is needed now more than ever.

Is U.S. Prison Labor Slavery Today, nearly two million people are confined in various correctional facilities across the country, with about 800,000 engaged in prison labor, most of it compulsory.

Lots to consider on this question, both morally and legally. Thanks, @rebeccaflynn712.bsky.social

The Struggle for Food Sovereignty While Incarcerated Prison food has become a tool of carceral control.

“Feeding yourself is protection, but it’s also declaring sovereignty. And in a prison geography, declaring sovereignty is declaring war.”

Do not obey in advance:
Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.

Could People in ICE Detention Centers Be Forced to Work in Slaughterhouses? The precedent in prisons exists.

As detention numbers creep upward, some advocates worry that detainees could be compelled to work to fill gaps in the workforce of some of the most dangerous jobs in the country, including on factory farms and in slaughterhouses. @gracehussain.bsky.social reports:

As Trump Stands Firm on Tariffs, USDA Signals Possible Relief for Farmers During Iowa visit, Secretary Brooke Rollins suggested that the administration would consider financial relief for farmers.

The disconnect between Trump's social media posts about tarrifs and USDA Secretary Rollins' assurances to farmers while on a trip to Iowa sure is something. Reporting by @ninaelkadi.com here: sentientmedia.org/usda-signals...

This is exactly the problem. Last time Trump bailed out farmers after China retaliated on ag products after Trump imposed tariffs. Will he bail out farmers again? If so, this is the kind of backscratching deal that keeps farmers hooked on GOP. Nevermind the whole system is built on overproduction.

CSU has been working on identifying where and to what degree CC is integrated in the curriculum across campus. It turns out that every college teaches courses directly about CC and have sections of many other classes that address the topic. CC is directly relevant to all science education in 2025.
