honestly though i would be interested to know what culturing buttermilk in a yogurt machine would do

when we were making our own, we were culturing the cream ahead of of time and then making butter (this is tasty, i endorse it). it was still really thin and watery though.

so like, the problem is less the absence of culture in my experience and that the making of butter removes all of the parts of the milk that i think are worth eating.

but i guess the real question is: do you like to drink buttermilk?

buttermilk leftover from making butter is not like. like cultured buttermilk from the store. i don't care to drink either, but i have not personally had great experiences using butter-making buttermilk in the places where i would use buttermilk normally (as a brine excepted)

This is because our elected officials haven't been helping with any of our institutions for years except the military and law enforcement. Schools, libraries and other public services have been held together by immense amounts of volunteer labor and community funding.

It was an ugly wake-up call for me, the dad of a new Kindergartener, to realize that the public school system has basically been completely abandoned by both parties since before my own time in it, and all of the "non-essential" stuff is provided entirely by donations and volunteer labor
