If an artist isn't able to visualise their ideas on paper (or on the screen) without the use of genAI, they are not an artist.

I know some artists who aren't capable of visualising things in their head, yet they can still create stunning art. I know others who brainstorm their ideas and compositions with literal scribbles and stick figures, only to end up with a beautifully rendered piece.

There is absolutely no excuse for a self-respecting artist to use genAI at any point during their process.

Someone over on Instagram saying that genAI is bad for art, but can still be used by artists who have trouble visualising their ideas.

I had to reply.

P1: A Corgi bounces along like a stupid idiot

P2: slams their idiot head --body-- into the ground. Smoosh.

P3: the idiot flies up into the air

P4: and keeps going, leaving even the mountains themselves behind like they're nothing. That idiot will go further than any of us, as they embrace the very heavens.

A woman imagines her own skull. Text reads: "thinking about my beautiful and iconic skull".

It probably looks amazing.

Ted Lasso, a closeup of his face. He has a horrible rictus grin, and mad eyes, pupils mere dots. His flesh visibly contorts as he moves his head to his left.

Above him, a single word

can't wait for the american man to come back and force us to all feel good again 😊❤️❤️

"but we have to use this technology or our shareholders-"
"but if we don't make games faster then-"
"but if our company doesn't exist then hundreds of jobs will be-"

maybe the companies that will survive will be the ones who actually still make art

because they'll stand out in a sea of slop

Anyway, I preferred when AI was used for its actual useful use cases in science and not as a shortcut for people's lack of creativity (which just produces slop for entertainment + is a plight for humanity, because you can't believe any content anymore).

GenAI results have become boring af nowadays. Everything is pretty much within the range of what humans have already produced. (I am sure someone will now come along and post some weird AI picture of a Kermit and Miss Piggy hybrid and use it as a proof that AI has invented something new.)

the larian stuff sucks to hear a lot. you have to be a true all-timer loser to think generative AI is useful for concepting ideas or artwork. you let the machine do the fun part you dumbass. it doesnt tell me you think efficiently it tells me youre a fuckass who's given up on being interesting

A comic called Animals with Misleading Names. There's an electric eel labeled "not an eel". There's a mountain goat labeled "not a goat." There's a maned wolf labeled "not a wolf." There's a king cobra labeled "not a cobra. Also, snakes are typically self-governing." There's a peacock mantis shrimp labeled "Not a peacock. Not a mantis. Also, not a shrimp." There's a horny toad labeled "Not a toad. Only thinks of you as a friend." There's a mayfly labeled "active through the spring and summer." There's an eastern kingbird labeled "found in the west. Many birds do not recognize its authority."

Animals with misleading names. I'm seeing this go around as part of a viral tumblr thread so I thought I'd reshare it.

I am sorry but you forgot to draw the edge of the skateboard between his hind legs and I can't focus on anything else. My brain tries to compute the shape of the skateboard but it can't and restarts and I'm suddenly back in bed again, hitting my alarm clock, going to the toilet and opening Bluesky.

One personally frustrating thing about the big AI push is that it forces people to assess it in a hurry, which makes people careless. It kinda smells like a scam to me if someone’s hurrying you along, cultivating urgency in you, well before you know where they’re taking you.

Explorers emerge from a gigantic drill vehicle and shine a flashlight on a large white spherical object labelled "Core." The sphere has a dore on it. The explorers approach the core and one grabs the doorknob. He asks "what mysteries lie within?" The door opens to reveal a man pleasuring himself to vintage porno with his back facing the explores. His head swivels around. His horrified expression underscores the violation of privacy.

One thing thats annoyed me about ai adoption is how self identified data and science people are approaching it so unscientifically.

Before making a decision about whether to accept something as true or adopt a new drug, etc, scientists set a parameter of acceptable error.

But we dont for ai?
