Owen Tippett's downhill skating carries Flyers to win over Caps When Owen Tippett is skating at his best, with all his speed and strength, it's all kinds of problems for the opponent, and all kinds of uplifting for the Flyers.

"I think he had like six breakaways today, like, it's crazy. He fell down on the 2-on-0 that we had, and he was still skating faster than me. It's wild, it's wild...amazing." – Trevor Zegras

Flyers thoughts: Denver Barkey, Matvei Michkov might be the next top wing duo Denver Barkey and Matvei Michkov seem to go well together, and Alex Bump's deceptive shot could become his X-factor.

On the Barkey-Michkov wing duo...

Alex Bump's deceptive shot...

Missing Tyson Foerster badly...

And maybe Alex Ovechkin's last skate in Philly.

Some loose thoughts on the Flyers:

A lack of focus, players 'nervous,' and a dismal effort that said everything about the Flyers The Flyers' 6-2 blowout loss to the Rangers left little else to say about this year's team. They don't have a shot.

Seeler said Monday's faceplant was "a focus thing."

Couturier said "we pissed away a game."

Tocchet said "guys looked nervous."

They're saying this in March, and after crumbling to one of the NHL's worst teams.

Tells you everything about the Flyers.

Flyers crumble against Rangers, waffle after the trade deadline For every step forward the Flyers take, there's a step back. They're still technically alive in the Wild Card chase, but does it really matter?

The Flyers lost to the Rangers.

It was pretty bad.

They're still technically alive, but you can't say the rest of this season is going anywhere with duds like this.

I do think a lot of us weren't fully prepared for how slow and methodical Briere was actually going to be.

I'm guilty of it too. It's easy to get anxious and apathetic when you're still here in March with another season fading.

When he said they were gonna take their time, he wasn't kidding.

The Bobby Brink trade created a crucial opening in the Flyers' logjam at wing There's a lineup spot open now that the NHL trade deadline is over. It might be Alex Bump's time to come take it, or soon enough, Porter Martone's.

The Flyers' wing logjam is here.

Bobby Brink was the first casualty of it with his trade to Minnesota.

But it might be Alex Bump's turn, and Porter Martone is on his way, so they need the room.

Danny Brière's starting to make it:

Why the Flyers held off on a Rasmus Ristolainen trade: 'It just did not make sense value-wise' There was buzz, there were calls, but ultimately, there wasn't an offer on Rasmus Ristolainen that Danny Brière and the Flyers saw worth it to act on.

They kept Risto.

Ristolainen is still here.

Brink went to the Wild, and the Flyers got the guy who went one pick after you know who.

And for the record: I believe Hurts is elite in his own distinct way.

He lost the first time, but he's the only current QB to keep the promise of coming back to win a title.

That ring, that parade mean so much.

On Feb. 4, Matt Selman, The Simpsons EP, texted Christine Nangle with an idea.

Their friend, Dan McQuade, planned to write about their Philly-themed episode. But he passed away before he could do so.

Selman and Nangle decided to add him to it — days before it aired www.inquirer.com/sports/dan-m...

You don't need the best QB to win, just look at Jalen Hurts and Sam Darnold Conventional thinking in the NFL still says you need an elite QB to win. But the past two Super Bowl champions say otherwise.

You can argue about elite QBs until you're blue in the face.

But your team really doesn't need one to win.

Good is more than good enough with the right fit.

Just look at the Eagles and Seahawks:

Bryce Harper seemed irritated about the "elite" thing not being kept "in-house."

But he and the Phillies should probably get real about their situation, and get uncomfortable.

Drake Maye is the newest 'he'll be back' quarterback, but Jalen Hurts is the only one to have kept that promise Drake Maye and the Patriots can only hope they have a trajectory similar to Jalen Hurts and the Eagles.

"He'll be back."

It was said about Joe Burrow, Brock Purdy, and now Drake Maye after they each lost in the Super Bowl.

But it's so much easier said than done, rare even.

Only one active QB has actually made the journey back to win it: Jalen Hurts.
