However, as a bisexual woman close in age to the protagonist, I have to say I found the description of the female love interests compelling and attractive-sounding. Maybe I am just into haircuts.

Librarian and nerd. Trying to keep my Star Trek posting to a reasonable level. Bi, she/her. Would strongly prefer not to be reposted.

09.12.2025 23:53 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I read this book earlier this year and I loved it. I generally find the "modern setting in which magic is real but apparently has absolutely no effect on the world at all" thing difficult to get on board with; I was able to cope with it here, but I know what you mean about it.

09.12.2025 22:05 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Had a look and saw that they looked very Pre-Raphaelite, and I know we have a few Kelmscott Press works, so went to the stack and had a look at a few likely candidates, and promptly found the volumes and pages that had been photographed. The file names now say what they actually are.
09.12.2025 22:05 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Solved a Library Mystery (that nobody cared about) at work. Our shared network drive is an absolute nightmare with tonnes of files inherited from our predecessors which nobody knows the reason for. I encountered some image files with names along the lines of "don't know what these are from".
09.12.2025 22:05 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I have been trying to work on a job application and Katie has spent the evening mewing loudly at me and being unwilling to be fobbed off (as she considers it) with Rob. (I am giving her attention; I'm not a monster.)

Katie often comes and jumps onto our bed and hangs out with us (not on a lap, though) when we're reading/laptopping in bed shortly before bedtime. She will usually jump off and leave the room when we turn the lights off and lie down, but sometimes has to be removed.
What a lovely cat! She needs her snuggling time. (Also, have you really had her for 12 years now? How time flies.)

06.12.2025 23:51 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0To my friends from LiveJournal I still think about you Wonder if you finally quit, Do you still speak to your mom? I remember when you went to Japan How you swore you'd never forgive him. I can't remember to take my meds but I remember you wanted to live on a houseboat. It's a strange intimacy, all of us unspooling across decades of internet space Like balls of yarn leaving a trail behind us of everywhere and everyone we've ever been I hope you got your houseboat. I hope you got everything. -Hayley DeRoche
