Heard Korean commentators repeating the phrase 대한민국이 무너지고 있다, the ROK is collapsing. It is such an evocative expression that conjures for me images of pillars of government & S Korean statehood, constructed with such sacrifice over years, heaving under pressure & struggling not to succumb.

Han Dok Soo, after being reinstated, emphasized importance of obeying constitutional court & yet continues to defy them & impinge Nat. Ass. powers by not appointing Judge Ma Eunhyuk. Flagrantly defying constitutional court says what about the rule of law? They can't really stall until Apr. 18th?!

Peace processes don't invoke ontological insecurity as long as the story is 'got right' and fit ins with the biographical narrative!

Now Kim Yong-hyeon is trying to pass things off to his subordinates as he becomes the fall guy for Yoon. All while democratic party and PPP sling mud at each other about every last detail seemingly helping Yoon by entrenching partisan politics while galvanising Yoon's more vocal fanatical support

Unlike Chun Du-hwan & Park Geun-hye, Yoon is trying to pass responsibility down to his subordinates and turn this into a political fight rather than a legal one to pressure the constitutional court becuase he knows the evidence against him is so compelling. Cowardly strategy sowing division & hate

중국이 왜 거기서 나와? I have no particularly positive feelings about China nor Lee Jae Myeong, but the PPP is relentlessly drawing on other sets of meaning to shield Yoon & change how this impeachment & arrest are understood. This will make moving on from this mess much harder as polarization is ramped up

Yoon was planning martial law for months, he was willing to do some real dirty stuff in that process, and that includes provoking nuclear armed North Korea across the most fortified border in the world

The more partisan this gets the easier it is for PPP & Yoon's ministers to start turning this into a problem of stability where Democrats start taking some blame. Muddying waters with maybe this maybe that completely detracts from the heart of the issue.

Like have some perspective here, Han is not some technocrat that cares about democracy, he has been with Yoon since the start, was abhorent after the Itaewon disaster, & failed to register any resistance in the state council meeting before Yoon declared martial law.

Only people wanting Han to not rubber stamp the appointment of those judges were the die hard PPP that are sticking by Yoon. And what is the PPP's proposal? Go with six judges into the impeachment trial. Then it only needs one judge disagreeing & the guy that saying 'shoot if you need to' maybe back

Han Deok-Su merely parroted PPP's line. In situation where ppp don't have much sympathy from anyone including most the right, & details of Yoon & military pals' actions are increasingly shocking, Id say its more a case of time will tell if people see PPP going too far 'again' rather than democrats.

Russia-North Korea Treaty Marks a Return to Normalcy We are witnessing a steady return to a web of relations previously regarded as normal after a recent, somewhat exceptional 30-year period.
