A brief summary of everything I have written on RIFs to date. RIFs are insanely complex and procedurally difficult to implement. Most RIFs are challenged on procedural grounds. 1/7

But thatโ€™s no excuse for not showing up.

Show up to a protest on the 18th. Itโ€™s a way to stand up and be counted for the proposition that what these people are doing to your country is not right, not acceptable.

Billionaires Are Hoarding Power, Not Money Billionaire money has become a source of wildly distorted political power that allows a few men with extremist views to wreak havoc on the rest of us.

โ€œThe problem with billionaires isnโ€™t that theyโ€™re hoarding money that would otherwise pay for a Scandinavian social utopia. Itโ€™s that their money has become a source of wildly distorted political power that allows a few men with extremist views to wreak havoc on the rest of us.โ€

Not sure you are wrong yet. If the Republicans come back with just an increase to the Obamacare subsidies and no curbing of trump, there is little political recourse for the Democrats not to accept.

Opinion | Government shutdowns wouldnโ€™t happen if they caused more pain Democratic leaders play a dangerous game as Trump threatens not to pay furloughed federal workers.

This editorial from @washingtonpost.com is disappointing because it is sloppy and misleading---if not factually wrong. As a piece by the Editorial Board (the voice of the paper), it threatens Washington Post's credibility and integrity. 1/15

Trump threatened shutdown layoffs. So far, he hasnโ€™t followed through. One week into a shutdown that shows no sign of ending, thereโ€™s also no sign of the dire consequences that President Donald Trump predicted.

It's been one week. The promise for mass RIFs has not come to fruition. This could indicate that it is taking agencies longer to prepare RIF plans than the administration expected. Or it could indicate this is all a bluff. I lean more toward the latter. 1/4

Presidential campaign analysis is always bedeviled by small sample size problems. And each takes place under different circumstances. The best ones (Reagan 1980, Clinton 1992, Obama 2008) have only this in common, they answer the call appropriate for the time in which they are run.

About 1 in 3 US Nobel prize winners are immigrants.
About 1 in 4 were government employees at some point.
About 44% of all Nobel prize winners were educated in US higher education.
As Trump demands a Nobel prize, he is destroying the means by which America came to dominate the prizes.

My hypothesis is that the electorate is fundamentally backward looking. Because law sort of constrained Trump during his first administration, people thought they'd get the same thing again.
