"Neighboring." It's what we do here in Minnesota.

Three images of an irritated looking man, hands on hips. First says “Minnesotans when the snowstorm misses them”. Second identical image says “Minnesotans when the snowstorm hits them but doesn’t give them enough snow .” Third image, identical to first two, says, “Minnesotans when the snowstorm hits them but gives them too much snow”

Yep, this is me.

Cover of Virginia Evans, The Correspondent. Two small birds sitting on a fence, facing one another Cover of Alice Harrow, The Everlasting. Dark background with title and author in big white letters over a sword covered in leaves and flowers

Oops, both the books I chose for Blizzard Reading were so good I finished them already! I hit the library Friday and started one; so good I stayed up late to finish. Repeat yesterday. Today: Re-read!!! Harrow, The Everlasting and Evans, Tbe Correspondent. Both AMAZING

Please post the link to your follow-up on the future alternatives!!! I saw the original article was from 2024. Really intrigued about what we’d need to do, wonder if re-engineering everyone’s home is possible . . .

Speaking as someone born in the immediate aftermath of a blizzard, who heard stories throughout childhood about the almost-at-home birth except for the kind snowplow driver my dad flagged down and begged to plow our street, may I just say that your child will LOVE being Blizzard Baby!!!

Six years ago, Breonna Taylor was shot and killed after officers executed a “No Knock” warrant for a suspect who didn’t live there & had already been arrested.

Breonna was killed in her sleep.

We remember Breonna Taylor.

The MN House just voted (unanimously) to rename our state’s solar program in honor of Melissa Hortman, who created it.

Here's a snippet of her remarks from when her original bill was passed in 2013. It was one of her proudest accomplishments.

It’s more than fitting the program be named after her.

In the late 1800s the US gov killed more than 3 million buffalo to intentionally starve Native communities and disrupt cultural lifeways. Today, tribes are working to bring the buffalo back. 1,500 buffalo were returned to tribes last year.

Attn: Minnesota Department of Transportation Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger, Central Avenue Improvement Team, Ricardo Lopez
CC: State Senator Doron Clark, State Representative Sydney Jordan, Commissioner Irene Fernando
Dear Central Avenue Reconstruction Decision Makers,
We are writing to express the overwhelming desire of our community for an "Art Walk" along Central Avenue NE in Minneapolis. As many community members have shared, this has long been a vision that could finally come to fruition through the Central Avenue reconstruction project.
The Northeast Minneapolis Arts District has been consistently named the top arts district in the nation due to the concentration of world-renowned local artists and visionaries in our neighborhood. An Art Walk along the main cultural corridor in Northeast would reflect our community's pride and identity as a vibrant, arts-driven destination.
We understand that the project team is working to develop a corridor-wide Visual Quality Advisory Committee to facilitate aesthetic recommendations from interested individuals. While this is an excellent opportunity to allow for community input, we believe there is an opportunity for more robust discussions on how to solidify desires for widened pedestrian space and art pads at major intersections.
The outpouring of support for the Art Walk provides an exciting opportunity for MnDOT and other partners to develop another destination point for our neighborhood and reflect the deep arts culture that is so widely celebrated. Not only would it provide aesthetic and cultural benefits, but it would also support traffic calming and mode-shift goals that contribute to the safety and the livability of our city.
We look forward to your response and thank you for your continued work on this project. We are both committed to do the work with you to make this happen.
Best

Last week Council Member Rainville and I sent a letter to MNDOT expressing our support for incorporating an “Art Walk” in the reconstruction of Central Ave. We have the #1 arts district in the country and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to forever incorporate it on Central Ave.

there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for

I love this description of writing, perhaps especially because I got caught in exactly this battle last night and finally had to give up and go to bed, hoping that a good night‘s sleep would enable me to wrestle the nasty little thing into submission today.

Sculpture of a head on a pink pillow, box of brown sugar is underneath the pillow eyes are closed Alternate angle of head on pillow sculpture Backside of sculpture showing hair on pillow Slightly different angle of ceramic sculpture

When I was a kid, I often went hungry- and I frequently went to bed bruised, beaten, or worse. One time I smuggled a brown sugar box out of the cupboard and stored it under my pillow for when I would wake up with nightmares.

Brown beagle mix standing with her back legs on the couch, front legs on a desk, turned to look back at you but clearly has been interrupted from trying to launch herself out the window at the squirrels Close up of adorable brown beagle-y dog stretched out on a carpet. She’s wearing a purple collar and her coat is every shade of brown and tan and black, all blended from light to dark and back again

Marigold would like some praise, please, plus description of her adorable features!

Yes. Reminds me of the John Wesley quotation:

“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”

LOL, you missed out! We had videos, CDs, listened to nothing else in the car for years. Finally transitioned them to Bruce Springsteen, Indigo Girls, Great Big Sea so I wasn’t humming “Let’s hear it for Wags the Dog” and “Fruit Salad” all the time like a lunatic.
