Seize the means of run production. BREAKOUT YEAR (2025): I write books about ballplayers kissing. Repped by @DeidreKnight .

24.11.2025 18:17 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0also as a note: I have to pay for piracy monitoring. it's not just taking money — I'm actively paying a service to deal with it and boyhowdy do they find a lot
24.11.2025 18:08 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0for free/cheap books...since I've been largely priced out of buying new trad books: library, stuff your ereader days, bookbub, ereaderIQ alerts, kobo/wide perma-freebies, arc teams, works in the public domain, etc.
24.11.2025 18:08 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0That's changing a lot, particularly with the rise of indie romance bookstores (I have a spreadsheet of those!!!) but it's not like "support indie" is a panacea. Lotsa marginalized people make much better Zon money than they would otherwise. No ethical consumption, not a lot of ethical production too
24.11.2025 18:08 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0the economics of small press and indie publishing are weird. Ex. I make twice off a paperback sold on Zon that I would from an indie bookstore and a lot of indie bookstores, in an effort to stay afloat, only stock big 5 trad pub stuff.

23.11.2025 05:12 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0anyway, the jewish labor bund, the incorruptibles, and revolutionary yiddishland get into all of this
23.11.2025 05:10 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0but it also isn't an accident that a bunch of people who had been generationally dispossessed and who'd had to set up, essentially, elaborate support networks would be able to effectively organize here.
23.11.2025 05:10 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0This gave rise to things like the Jewish Labor Bund, among other orgs. And when mass emigration began as a result of late-empire pogroms, Jews took their labor activism with them. There's no doubt the US labor movement in New York fomented something remarkable...
23.11.2025 05:10 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0But a generation or so later, the industrial revolution hit Eastern Europe and factories needed a great deal of labor, including Jewish labor. So previously economically disenfranchised (and largely dispossessed) people started to have economic leverage.
23.11.2025 05:10 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0basically, the Pale was a political and economic boundary constricting Jewish movement that began in the 1700s or so. Jews couldn't engage in most industries...
23.11.2025 05:10 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0just to add to this: the reason why a lot of these workers were known for being labor agitators is that they were labor agitators in the Pale too 1/whatever
