Happy Birthday Barbara 😊
I think we did quite well, didn’t we? 😉
A good day!
It really isn’t.
I haven’t seen any enthusiasm from them on independence for a long time. Swinney’s heart is increasingly not in the job, and who can blame him? The May elections are going to be a wake-up call, but I suspect it’s too little, too late.
I am!
Over on Substack, Celine Nguyen's posted about how we’ve created a society where artists can’t make a living, and @naomialderman.bsky.social has weighed in with her usual insightfulness.Yet stagger on we do! Here’s a run-down models of earning a living that (sort-of, sometimes) work: buff.ly/610IUYV
‘She became the sex slave of an AI’
I look at the disturbing rise of AI ‘companions’. Not only are people falling in love with AIs - sometimes even marrying them - but the data harvested gives Big Tech access to our most secret desires
Welcome to Dystopia
My @heraldscotland.bsky.social Big Read
There will always be a market for well-written crime, but it’s certainly true that these are not the best times for new or mid-list writers querying police procedurals. Hence you’ll see people starting to switch genres.

Five jobs I’ve had:
Shop assistant
Ice cream seller
Civil servant
Jewellery designer
Writer

Hmm. Probably speculative fiction? It feels like a broad enough church to encompass the New Thing. Will keep you posted!
Oh, good grief, that’s horrendous!
No, I’m taking a break from crime for a while - too much of it in the real world for me to feel good about contributing to it (: I do have a new novel on submission in a slightly different genre, so we’ll see how that goes and I may well be doing events next year.
Hmm, those are the biggies. Maybe somewhere local like Nairn? It usually has a good crime element. And Grantown, if it’s still running?
Also, we are of a cynical frame of mind after years in the industry so much harder to fool.
Dregs of the dregs.
Don’t. I’m actually scared to look each morning now.
All the best from Inverness!
Belle and Finn wish you a happy and peaceful festive season - and here’s to a better year for us all!
Not a lot at the moment, but we’ll have to see whether more’s on the way.
It’s what we do, it seems!
