How a Canadian scientist and a venomous lizard helped pave the way for Ozempic - National | Globalnews.ca In 1984, Dr. Daniel Drucker, an endocrinologist from the University of Toronto, discovered a hormone that helped pave the way for popular diabetes drugs such as Ozempic.

This is the most relevant article to NIH and research cuts I’ve seen.

Imagine if this was today , how many people would be saying β€œWhy are we studying Gila Monsters and their impact on diabetes ? That’s wasted money !”

On changes to #NIH indirect rates, there is a law in place that prohibits NIH from making such changes without the approval of Congress. See Division D, Title II Section 224 of The Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 (Public Law No: 118-47) grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Long a β€˜Crown Jewel’ of Government, N.I.H. Is Now a Target

Research supported by NIH has led more than 100 Nobel Prizes and has supported more than 99% of drugs approved by federal regulators from 2010 to 2019.

β€œNIH produces an astounding return on investment to the American taxpayer. In Fiscal Year 2022, NIH research funding supported 568,585 jobs and generated $96.84 billion in economic activity β€” that’s $2.64 of economic activity for every $1 of research funding.”

An EXTREMELY fundamental blind spot people have about NYC's homeless "problem" is that it's generally not NYC that makes these people homeless. It is where they come after becoming homeless elsewhere. Every homeless person I've got to know is from outside NYC.

NYC is relatively nice to them.

Spending a month on Bluesky has created a whole new model of a fight we need to be having right now. Not liberal vs. conservative or whatever, but respect vs manipulation.

I am tired of being manipulated everywhere I go. That’s why I like it here, I feel like I’m in charge for once.

This starter pack is in honor of Assistant Professor Antentor Hinton Jr (AJ) at Vanderbilt School of Medicine - Basic Sciences. AJ curated the first 100 Inspiring Black Scientists in America list and in collaboration with the Community of Scholars expanded this list to the 1000.
