What was surreal was that I was speaking w/ an OakDOT staff member during this who was explaining to me the road would be physically unable to handle the sheer volume of drop offs during AM rush hour.

FWIW when we did the Broadway temporary roadway diet to 1 lane in front of Oakland Tech and added a xwalk where a student was hit, the road was able to take the crush of hundreds of drop offs occurring simultaneously without any severe back up nor delays to the 51A.

I would be curious who activates the ALPR - like, if there is a vehicle engaged in a traffic infraction, does the bus driver then trigger the ALPR to capture the license?

Did they get it via ALPR on bus or a traffic officer?

The seating requirement on the MCI Transbay AC Transit buses is truly a nightmare. Overfull buses Tues - Thurs with riders negotiating over seats while other riders are being outright rejected+ no backup bus available. I'm trying to commute via transit with a 1 y/o & the unreliability is killing me.

I relied on the 51, 6, and 18 during that period. Started taking the 33 regularly in 2019. It wasn't great back then but it's gotten worse in the last 2-3 years, post pandemic. The 33 in particular has taken a nosedive compared to 2019

Transit service levels in downtown Oakland on a Friday at rush hour. Maddening levels of dysfunction.

Diamniadio station seemed a bit overbuilt but may become more important in the future

The train was pretty empty leaving Diamniadio but standing room only one or two stations later

Since 2021, electric suburban "TER" trains run every 10 minutes all day (every 20 minutes Sundays) 36km from Diamniadio to Dakar. This amounts to better service than any suburban/commuter rail line in the US.

Rush hour on a Friday and this is the bus service level in downtown Oakland connecting around the lake and to popular Fri evening destinations (Grand Lake). Totally useless.

Welp everything is short lived. Yesterday was a plethora of cancellations and today the P overflowed and they just kicked a ton of riders off with no backup buses available. This kills reliability :(

Partner's P Transbay was full & a 2nd bus was immediately provided to pick up overflow passengers which was both efficient + beautiful

Timely given this was my treatment for using the bus in downtown Oakland this evening.

It's clear Council lacks a strong grasp of what the day to day experience of transit dependency is like - something that significantly impacts the daily lived experience of residents they purport to advocate for.

For the routes I ride most, this summer was incredibly bad. Weekends also seem to have a higher rate though I don't know for sure. I suspect maybe high call out rate for drivers. Things tend to undulate and they unfortunately rarely stay good for long.
