I dedicated years of my life to reporting on January 6 and exposing what happened. I was there that day, co-wrote a book, and published a series of major stories on my own, for Rolling Stone, and for TPM.

I hope it mattered. I hope history will remember and understand what happened.

The funniest thing is, when Christians are extremely judgy towards astrology or esoteric beliefs. They’re like “I would never believe in such absurd things.”
Yes you do.
Just because there is more text to Christianity, doesn’t make it more true.

2/2 although the logical structure of their belief system has been argumentatively destroyed over the period of its existence.

I strongly agree with the point, that the arrogance is not exclusively attached to religion. There surely are other ideologies that make such claims. But the inherent value of (especially Christian and Muslim) religion is to be sure about the essence of the world - to be arrogant about that. 1/2

There is a big epistemological problem with having a rational, argumentative discussion with religious people. As a person of religious belief you go by the presumption that you know and have figured what is the singular cause of everything.

A system that depends a people obeying to other people of power benefits from religion. Not only as an instrument of oppression but as a belief system that educates people that life only happens under a higher force and works after a pre written plan.

To me the term “religion” is just too positively connoted. From a neutral perspective I use it as term for the belief system and cult as term for the gathering of people.

I wish I could agree. To my understanding, fascism and in the same way religion is gaining popularity. (Not an evident statistic just my feeling when I look at the people I know.)

Police Brutality in Germany is getting out of hand. The fascist Party “AfD” had their conference today. Demonstrating people from the left and also DIE LINKE representatives have been attacked by the police and beaten unconscious despite wearing badge

And religion absolutely benefits from the historical need of an idea of what’s wrong and what’s right. I think, and I agree with the Aufklärung in that, that humans need to get aware of there capabilities of developing moral rules and why it is important to follow them.+ yet that they’re negotiable

I think in some way I would disagree with the last point that religion doesn’t make that claim. Religion is too abstract of a term as if itself could make any claim. I would more likely state that practitioners of a certain religion (let’s say Christians) do make that claim.

Agree! Religion as a tool made me first read it as “pre existing”. But by continuing I understood it more as followed:
Moral is a result of social practice as is religion. Religion though makes the claim of having the monopoly on morality.
But please correct me, if I’m wrong!

Absolutely agree

I’ve seen a lot of posts on other platforms asking “do you believe in God?” When answered “no” the conclusion often seems to be “so you’re not capable of moral behaviour?” Or “so you don’t believe in Morality then?” - stating morality is the yield of religion and religion it’s only cause.

Is morality an achievement of religion?

What’s the difference between being religious and being faithful then?
And let’s say I believe in eating Yoghurt every day - am I truly religious by practicing that?

10.01.2025 09:18 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

1st what does “truly religious” mean?
2nd isn’t religion an attempt to give people the illusion of rigid rules and with that the feeling of safety?

I’m curious about the connection between strong religious beliefs and political persuasion. Is there a link of people being extremely religious and politically conservative (for example)?

I sure agree that “biblical events” are more symbolic to a certain extend than to be seen as historical. But the question to me is: what claim has been made by the writers - do they see the written as historically evident?
Would also be interesting to make a study with Christians about that!

(Thanks for the conversation btw) I would totally agree, that logic itself isn’t denied in total, but regarding their understanding of the empirical truth and epistemological processes connected to their beliefs that “human” logic doesn’t apply.

2. By that I don’t necessarily talk about empirical evidence or epistemology. Just the mode of thinking an interconnection of different ideas and terminology. Deconstructing the psychological aspects of religion is already a next sphere.

08.01.2025 15:28 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

[trying to put together all 3 parts] by denying a consistent pattern of interpretation they must necessarily deny logic. The system of interpretation and terminology (to call it that) must be interdependent. So in my terms denying interpretation is equal to denying logic.

Been lying awake all night thinking of:
Do people REALLY believe that 2k years ago there was a dude walking on water and making wine from water just by looking at it? Is being a Christian not some kind of intellectual surrender by denying any form of Logic?
