I'm not so confident that there is the transitional relief claimed here. My business rate bill according to the VOA website is going up by over 100% to Β£26k from roughly Β£10k. The transitional relief is only Β£1k

The Government’s failure to support our high streets is a stealth tax on small businesses. Pubs, hospitality venues & shops are being pushed to breaking point. We need to back our high streets with fair business rates and real support, not squeeze them further.

Graphic with text, displayed over an orange-brown background, reads: "The Government recently gave itself the powers to reduce significantly lower business rates bills, but now they're refusing to use them - instead using our high streets and treasured pubs as a cash cow for treasury coffers. Our pubs, cafes, and restaurants are already on their knees, and these choices will only force more high street businesses to shut up shop. The Government must throw our hospitality sector a lifeline. They must urgently fix this mess by using its powers to lower business rates and bring in the emergency hospitality VAT cut we Liberal Democrats have been calling for to save our high streets." The quote is attributed to DAISY COOPER.

First it was stealth taxes on households, and now it’s a stealth tax on our high streets.

The government is hammering businesses, we need an urgent VAT cut for hospitality services now.

⚠️ WOW. High streets are being hit with a business rates bombshell.

The Chancellor has serious questions to answer:

❓How many businesses will pay rates for the first time?

❓How many will see bills go up?

❓Why isn’t she using the powers she gave herself to help high streets?

Rates bill going from Β£950 month to Β£2350. Why does the UK treat independent hospitality with such contempt. We create economic value we don't extract it unlike the banks and the city that Reeves fawns over

It’s clear to anyone paying attention that Farage won’t investigate the Russian infiltration of Reform.

The Prime Minister must step up and launch a national investigation.

My business rates are more than doubling, they are taxing going out, beyond what many people can afford. Out of touch and out of ideas

No details on business rates, my guess the relief will be withdrawn and rates will go up, though lower than pre pandemic

The Chancellor has spotted the problem but refused the obvious cure.

The fastest way to turbocharge economic growth is to fix our relationship with the EU & plug the Β£90billion Brexit blackhole.

Instead, all this Budget does is again fail to tackle the cost of living crisis & boost our economy.

It’s Budget Day β€” and the South West can’t be ignored.
For Mid Dorset & North Poole I’m calling for:
β€’ Urgent GP funding in Wimborne
β€’ A 17-month 5% VAT cut for hospitality
β€’ Scrapping the Family Farm Tax
Come on Chancellor β€” make our Christmas. πŸŽ„

It looks like fossil fuel shill Reeves is setting out a Budget that’s not so much an omnishambles as a multiple arson attack. Businesses left, right and centre will be destroyed - from hospitality to automation and many others besides. Truss mark 2.

πŸ“’ Today's Budget must be a turning point for Britain's economy. Families in South Cambridgeshire face soaring bills & small businesses are being squeezed. The Chancellor must cut VAT for hospitality, scrap the NI hike & make big banks pay their fair share. #Budget2025

Labour doesn’t understand small business. Without removing the self imposed trade sanctions of Brexit, the disaster of the energy market, the uk economy is marooned and moribund

Lib Dem leader Edward Davey calls for a national investigation into Russian political interference in British politics:

"Given Reform won't, he must. So will he know launch a national investigation into Russian infiltration into our politics?"

Starmer: "Reform is riddled with pro-Putin propaganda"

Robbie Gibb was appointed to the BBC Board by Boris Johnson, was an editorial advisor for GB News, and worked as Theresa May's Director of Comms.

He is not impartial or neutral. The government should remove him from the Board immediately to protect the BBC's independence.
