Or maybe the fact that young Brits are leaving the UK in droves cos of the poor quality of life here?

Or the fact that Starmer managed to achieve a deal with the French that the Tories were never able to do?

Or do we think that’s not what they plan to cover in their β€œimmigration specialβ€πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ™„

Maybe the fact that immigration figures are way down and pretty much back to pre-pandemic levels?

Or the fact that we’ve had the longest run of zero boat crossings in 2 years now?

Oh good - another β€œimmigration special” question time.

Broadcast from Dover.

With Zia Yusuf - of courseπŸ™„

I wonder what they’ll talk about?

Great thread. Emma is brilliant at carefully researched, fact based debunking of nonsense.

Emma not only dismantles the dross spouted by Sarah Vine with consummate ease, but shines a light on the default right wing tactic of scapegoating, oh, and the reduction in small boat crossings conveniently ignored by the gutter press.

Yes - that’s exactly what they’ve done

Agreed - but somehow it is always the woman who is to blame for this circumstance according to the vile rags that run these stories

If you haven’t noticed this up to this point, now you won’t be able to avoid identifying it everywhere

She shoots, she scores. Emma is really good at this.

Also, the former Mrs Gove appears to be kept by the EU-domiciled, tax evading aristocrat that owns a significant disinformation platform. Like so many "contrarians." Poshboy's pets. One and all.

And have you noticed a big uptick in β€œbenefits” stories at the moment?

Probably completely unrelated(πŸ€”) to the fact we’ve had the longest run with no small boat crossings for 2 years, and the latest immigration stats are down at pre-pandemic levels…

They’ve gotta find a scapegoat somewhereπŸ™„

The issue is that a woman working full time on a decent salary cannot afford rent on a one bed flat and the cost of childcare to allow her to work

THAT’S what should be being called out

But the RW media don’t want people questioning THAT

Better to vilify those struggling to make ends meet

What β€œlifestyle choice” does she think this lady should make?

Stay at home and be a β€œworkshy benefits scrounger”

Or work, be productive and pay taxes with help towards the cost of childcare?

Because there isn’t a 3rd option.

Childcare costs have skyrocketed in the last 15 years

As have rents

As have bills

As have the cost of living in general.

The sneering Vine had small children 15 years ago. She has no concept of the costs now.

03.12.2025 18:26 β€” πŸ‘ 135    πŸ” 7    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

She has 2 options.

She works full time, pays taxes and gets help to pay for childcare.

Or she doesn’t work, looks after the children herself and gets benefits to feed, clothe and house them

She would be villified either way by the likes of Sarah Vine

03.12.2025 18:26 β€” πŸ‘ 171    πŸ” 18    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Can you see the problem?

She works full time on a decent wage.

But her rent takes 2/3 of her salary.

And childcare takes pretty much 100% of her salary.

Yeh - that doesn’t work…

Can you see it??

03.12.2025 18:26 β€” πŸ‘ 132    πŸ” 20    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Rent on her one bed flat is Β£2000

Childcare for her pre-school age children (which she needs to be able to WORK) is Β£2,600

After school care for her school age child (which she needs to be able to WORK) is another Β£300

So rent and childcare ALONE cost her nearly Β£5,000 per month

03.12.2025 18:26 β€” πŸ‘ 113    πŸ” 8    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 1

The lady being looked down on by Vine works full time - that’s her β€œlifestyle choice”

She has a salary of Β£45K

Which brings home just under Β£3000 per month.

She is a single mum and the Dad does not contribute.

She lives and works in London, where she’s lived for 16 years.

In a surprise to absolutely no one, the mum she’s describing is not claiming benefits as a β€œlifestyle choice”.

This paywalled article is full of β€œin my grandparents day, blah blah blah” and nasty sneery comments about latest iPhones for spoilt childrenπŸ™„

It's impossible not to love the clarity Emma provides. How will he possibly survive these horrific taxes on his millions?

This is what I love about social media. A story in a paper that you know doesn't add up, but you dont know how to work it out. So along comes Emma and explains it all for you. Yet again sterling work and much appreciated.

Can’t remember budget β€˜case studies’ ever being quite so funny. Especially in newspapers that recently anointed Liz Truss a fiscal genius.
