I'm a fan of the 13th century chronicler known as Matthew of Paris. I also post images/videos of birds and animals that visit my birdbath and sometimes, my amateur photos of the night sky. You might know me as "Michael".

A skunk walks across a leaf-strewn back yard, with a stone wall barely visible in the background. The image is black and white, as it is taken at night with infrared illumination - hence the glowing eyes of the skunk.

#skunk Late night visitor. Spring is definitely here.

In accepting his WGA award, Stephen Colbert named and said something funny about each of his 20 writers so they’d be hired when his show ends 🥹

Nice observation!! I wonder if it is a little like focus control on a camera to get greater depth of field from their vision (meaning that objects both near and far are more sharply focused). It would help identify shapes that could be threats...

Found: The 19th century silent film that first captured a robot attack A newly rediscovered 1897 short by famed French filmmaker Georges Méliès is being hailed as the first-ever depiction of a robot in cinema.

Sometimes you just find these things on the interenet.

That was neat. I only got to about 1300... For a humorous take in a similar vein, here's this comedian's take on the tale of the Three Little Pigs...in Shakespearean English.

Save Moon Camp | Jackie and Shadow need all of you to be their heroes

#birds

I visit the website for these eagles almost every day.
Now their habitat is in danger from humans building resorts.
You can help here... They have till July 31, 2026 to raise the funds necessary to preserve the forest.

If the route includes a lot of down-hill, it could be the increased mass giving you down-hill momentum. Could also be driving habit changes because of the payload... Lots of lane-changes and speed-up/slow-down drives down gas mileage. Was the added weight changing how you drive? Just a thought...

A grackle is captured above a birdbath, taking off before it's wings are spread. The pose and the angle makes its feathers unusually brilliant in the sunlight, quite a contrast from the background of stone, lawn, and garden.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

"... One of
the fishes, a monster of prodigious size, made its way into
the Thames, and with difficulty passed uninjured between the
pillars of the bridge; ..."

That's the Old London Bridge built in the early 13th Century.

Venerat ad funus Thetidis de piscibus unus,
Quem, rex Neptunus misit quasi nobile munus.
[To Thetis' funeral came a monster fish,
By Neptune sent to make a glorious dish.]

Matthew of Paris records that in 1240, a very large "fish" swam 55 miles up the Thames River to Mortlake.
