Rainbow Trout and Some Respect This is a quick read. Let me just tell you... This was a struggle and we both won. The hookset was perfect and the battle was typical. In good running water it took about two minutes to bring this fish to my net. That doesn't sound like long, but in a small creek with a big fish, that is a hot 120 seconds.

Firewood Treasure Box I have have stack of lumber behind my shed from a recent porch build here at my home. The stack has an assortment of pieces in sizes and shapes. There is some thick posts like 4X4 and some 6X6, and a large assortment of 2X6, 2X8 scrap sections on the pile. I keep thinking I will come up with some ingenious "re-use" project for most of it before it becomes aged fire pit food.

Oni Type-II Tenkara Rod Review A rod review that's been a long time coming... I bought my first Oni rod back in 2013. Back then, the rod was different than it is now. The rod taper/action was the same, but handles were small batch handmade by Sakakibara-san himself and the rod was heavier than it is now. Oh and also, there was only one Oni rod model available, the Sakakibara Special.

The Gifts of Trout At this time of year, bookended between Thanksgiving (for North Americans) and Christmas, thoughts often turn to gratitude and to gifts. And there are many things we fixed-liners can be thankful for. Gifts such as frequent opportunities to immerse in nature, the camaraderie of a community bonded by a shared passion for "only a rod, line & fly", and relationships with the glorious wild mediated by only a minimum of technology - such as relationships with trout that belong in art galleries, with bronze goddess smallmouths, and even with the magnificence, if we look closely enough, of an ancient carp.
