Yeah relating to each other through HowStuffWorks articles is the healing our society needs. Just keep shitposting until we all feel connected again, it will happen I promise!

30.07.2023 17:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thou dost tho
30.07.2023 17:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Unfortunately I think itβs the opposite. Itβs those who have made only some modicum of success in their creative work which are most threatened by AI. The lack of intellectual clarity in this thread doesnβt bode well for the creative potential of the posters.
30.07.2023 17:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Given my hatred for Funyunβs you have no idea how deeply this insult stings. But I will recover in time. Anyway, I didnβt say βplagiarismβ you TI-83-brained excuse for a human <3
30.07.2023 17:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Actually I think, to the extent that itβs allowed to happen, AI producing βcreativeβ/entertainment works will inspire novel advances in human works, likely things which AI could not begin to imitate any time soon.
30.07.2023 17:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I didnβt characterize originality that way.
30.07.2023 17:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think itβs the other way around. Iβm very confident in my creativity and inventiveness, so I donβt feel threatened by AI. Folks like yourself, on the other handβ¦ Iβm not sure.
30.07.2023 17:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Right, youβre not here to engage your intellect but to win a few meaningless shitposting points with others who want to play the same game. Whoβs up their own ass? π©
30.07.2023 17:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Right, because one example of morons utilizing AI for such purpose must mean that all who do are also morons and using it in the same way. Brilliant reasoning.
30.07.2023 17:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I never said AI is inspired or βhas a brainβ. Are you sure you read my argument carefully, my brain-having brother?
30.07.2023 17:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβm not saying itβs a good thing, I would support writers unions pushing for bans on AI in commercial writing sectors, etc. Techno-displacement has broad implications and systemic roots which are often fucked up. That doesnβt mean AIs canβt out-write the average human in many contexts.
30.07.2023 17:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I agree. Cool skeet btw.
30.07.2023 16:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0AI canβt write anything convincing even though there are otherwise-intelligent people who literally believe these programs have some kind of real agency/soul/general intelligence? Remember that the bar for βconvincingβ is not so high among the public.
30.07.2023 16:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0No, itβs a mirroring of the pedantic take on the idea of βtheftβ as a disqualifier of ethical or qualitative standards for writing. βGood artists copy, great artists steal.β
30.07.2023 16:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Largely, it is, in the way that the word βtheftβ is being used here. I await your explanation that it is otherwise.
30.07.2023 16:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Having our own experiences (which we express), employing novel approaches, etc, does not mean that the vast majority of our work does not βstand on the shouldersβ of our community and history. There is an element of bricolage in all art.
30.07.2023 16:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We have our own experiences and we also synthesize other peoples experiences (and their beliefs/ideas and their language patterns and aesthetics). Picasso: βArt is theft.β Thompson rewrote The Great Gatsby word for word to better emulate the writing. Pretty much all musical composition, etc.
30.07.2023 16:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The poetics are of course limited to algorithmic imitation, but they are still there and are above average.
30.07.2023 16:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Where did I say that? Read it again bruh.
30.07.2023 16:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβm very critical of the technocracy. Youβre thoughts and feelings are so easily manipulated that you canβt help but read me as pro-SV. And your ability to express that is limited to middle-school level insults which you hope will gain a few βlikesβ and boost your avatar-dependent ego. :/
30.07.2023 16:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ah but thatβs what youβve done. Where did I say that AI βknowsβ anything? Where have I contested that it will take jobs? The point I was arguing is simple: AI is sufficiently good at organizing information such that it can outperform the average person along certain metrics.
30.07.2023 16:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I wouldnβt say βsimplyβ because there are lots of homogenous processes which inform output, but nothing which is expressed is untouched, to some extent, by the fountain of culture. I donβt just make music, music makes me.
30.07.2023 00:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It is certainly very dull. Great for technical and legal writing, though.
30.07.2023 00:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Canβt say that I expected it was going to be a coherent or entertaining burn, but thanks for trying to be polite. Sincerely, Iβd suggest that your views might become more comprehensive and insightful if you spent time *outside* of the professional writer world.
30.07.2023 00:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks for taking me back to elementary school with this schoolyard-level of insult. Nostalgia.
29.07.2023 23:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I agree that the intellectual property question is poorly understood, but I also think that all human expression is largely the mass theft of other human expression. Very rarely does expression seem to come out of nowhere, while also being highly resonant.
29.07.2023 23:55 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 10 π 2Youβve really presumed a lot which is not true not implicit in anything Iβve written.
29.07.2023 23:52 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Great slam.
29.07.2023 23:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Either youβre confusing the concept of βwhy donβt we pay humansβ¦β with the quality of that syntax, or you think that question is an example of high-level writing?
29.07.2023 23:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It amuses me
